It's a myth anyone specialized in EMT/paramedical buys this. People use throwaway $5 scissors that are mass produced, always use and discard, hence never needing resharpening. Someone in product placement in LM did a bad job and the company's been stuck with this useless product all along.

It's a myth anyone specialized in EMT/paramedical buys this. People use throwaway $5 scissors that are mass produced, always use and discard, hence never needing resharpening. Someone in product placement in LM did a bad job and the company's been stuck with this useless product all along.

Yeah, I've read enough comments from ems people that say they leave their scissors behind all the time and they don't buy these expensive ones. They buy the cheap ones because you're always gonna misplaced or lose them.

Leatherman has lost the plot in recent years. They used to be a company devoted to providing solid tools at a solid price for the working man.

Now they seem to be completely consumed with manufacturing status symbols.

I know the first responder community is split on whether or not it's worth it to buy your own high quality shears or just use the disposable station supplied ones. As a non-first responder and gadget collector, I'm in for 1. Easy enough to throw in a range bag, first aid kit, diaper bag, fishing box, truck console. 1,000's of use cases outside of "trauma" needs. I can see being glad I had this if I ever need it.

People who buy these also usually get an elastic cord to secure them to their waist or gear.

I am one of the people who got the expensive premium version and then lost them in a couple weeks. For cutting clothes any of the $5-10 plain jane trauma shears work fine. If you want fancy then get the leatherman knock off for $15-20.

The knock offs seem to be affecting what Leatherman can charge.

I've got a set of both some knock offs and the originals. They aren't that different, at least for the price difference from what Leatherman used to charge.

They discontinued this model, they are keeping the Raptor Rescue around. That's why they are on sale, and only available in crimson. Rescue is still normal price.

I did for 30 years. A lot happens fast on an emergency scene and if these get contaminated with blood or fuel, pitch them and grab a new pair. Also,they are frequently borrowed by other fire/ems personal and if you don't get yours back, it's not a big deal.
