Just got this and set it up. It really is quite easy. Noted that it appears to have a firmware update every 3 months with the latest one being from late June so it has good product support. Very happy with it so far

How does the backup camera activate, how does it know when the car is in reverse? For that does it have to be wired into the car's electronics?

Yes. You tap into your car's reverse lights using a Scotchlok connector. When you shift into reverse, the camera powers up and the display switches to show the camera feed.

When you install the backup camera it gets power by wiring the camera to the cars reverse lights. When you put the car in reverse the reverse lights get power along with the backup camera. The unit senses the backup camera has turned on and automatically will display the image coming from the backup camera. Put the car in drive, reverse lights and camera turn off and head unit goes back to previous state.

I've gotten multiple versions of these in the past and they're all exactly the same except the bootup logo screen. If beyond that it's a blue screen for setup after, they're all running the same board. Find the cheapest one since there is no difference.

Also yeah you have to download an app and connect to the screen mirroring or something to apply a fix otherwise you'll get a bunch of disconnects.

You're going to sit there and wholeheartedly defend 720p on an 11" screen? A discerning eye will notice, but you may not. Enjoy your fuzzy content. I am sticking with my initial comment.
What are you even talking about?Lots of sports is broadcast at 720p and looks fine I'm hard pressed to tell 720 from 1080 on my 13 inch tablet. 720 isn't some crazy bad resolution. But that's on 16:9 screens. This is not a 16:9 screen. This screen is effectively 18 inch 1080p screen with three top cut off. It's not any blurrier than a 1080p screen. You just saw a number, had no idea what it meant and wanted to sound smart more you wanted to be right.

1920x720 isn't 720p, it's 1080p UW. it's a widescreen with the top and bottom cut off. get educated before posting stupidity.
1080p UW (Ultra-Wide) refers to a display resolution of 2560x1080 pixels with a 21:9 aspect ratio

Do you know what 720p is?
(Hint: it's 1280x720)

Try again basic math flunkie 🤣🤣
The description on the Amazon webpage states specifically: "1920×720P". 720p is often referred 1280x720p, but it technically only specifies the vertical resolution in progressive mode. So any resolution that has 720 pixels vertically and is progressive would match. So they're not wrong.

No reason to be hostile towards others though, even if they were wrong.

fair, I was more meaning a ~2.35 aspect movie resolution, which is 1920x800. either way, very much not 720p

720p can refer to anything that has 720 pixels vertically and is in progressive mode. Even if we often (especially in the context of HD) refer to 720p as the typical 1280x720. The problem is that they hijacked the meaning of 720p to indicate something specific when the term isn't.

Causing these misunderstandings.

I bought one a month ago. The touchscreen stopped working after the third day. I decide to just get a refund after that.

FYI, one of the product videos mentions [amazon.com] a built-in dash cam, but it does not seem like this model has it.

The screen resolution seems fine based on the video reviews, and the widescreen seems to be designed to allow CarPlay or Android Auto to be displayed alongside another app. I have more concerns about the built-in battery, as that could be problematic for those living in extreme climates. I would prefer no battery or a super capacitor.
