The glance app is the only thing that makes this phone unusable.

Even if you uninstall or disable it, it will come back and put ads on your lockscreen.

The glance app is literal malware.
Best to not enable it during the initial setup. It uses some deceptive wording so just skip anything you don't know for sure that you want.

Doesn't matter anymore with the newer updates. Idk if you use a Motorola phone daily, but I do.

What you just said was good advice 1 year ago. Now since 2ish months ago, it enables itself regardless. Don't take my word for it, look it up.

What matters most is "8GB of built-in RAM", at least for me.
The other bonuses are SIM+eSIM support, phone jack, and Micro SD Card.

The year (2024 vs 2025) is somewhat irrelevant - it will be locked for a year, and by the time it is unlocked it will be "old in Motorola 2yr-updates" terms.

Easily solved. Use your harness and have it uninstall it, not to be confused with "disable it".

Most are 3 years, from date of release, now. Even the 2023 G Stylus.

Granted but at what point does a Motorola phone out of updates truly become obsolete?

I have a 2023 stylus now, I don't worry about using it another 1 or 2 yrs if needed unless the phone itself just dies on me.

Depends on the user. Not a once size fits all. I still use a Moto e 2020 daily and 2022 G Stylus.

Given most 'big' android updates happen maybe 1 or 2x a year tops (say Android 15 to 16)

not concerned about year one at all. I guess it becomes more of an issue with how important the updates are as time goes by and security patches for real vulnerabilites. But if I get 5 years solid use out of a phone, I'd want a new one at some point just to enjoy something more advanced.

Before the holidays, I bought a TF deal on Ebay: 2 of these phones + 1 yr. of service each for $90. Gave one away and am using the other. Works well for my needs and stays most of the time in the car.

if you have your exact model #, try searching by model #
https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.ph...one2=12867

Finally found one at gsm arena (i had it bookmarked from long ago). Just in case anyone else was wondering, they seem very similar, except (stylus listed first each time) 6.8" screen vs 6.7", Android 12 vs 15, back vs side fingerprint reader, 30hz vs 120hz, 256GB storage (for my model) vs 128GB, 6GB RAM vs 8GB, different CPU ofc, the Power has faster charging (10w vs 30w IIRC), & the stylus doesn't have NFC capability while the power does. I don't pay attention to the camera cuz i don't use it except for Amazon Vine reviews occasionally. I don't use the stylus, except the first few months. Now, i forgot it's there unless I'm doing something that accidently knocks it loose. Thanks again!

Edit: i went ahead & ordered it too, btw.

Edit 2: my stylus recently got the dreaded, "charging connected device via USB" notification that won't go away, & have to reboot to charge properly, after using all troubleshooting & normal cleaning methods, it persisted until yesterday & is working fine now that I ordered this new phone, ofc. If I didn't, it would likely keep acting up.

yes, see other discussion in the thread regarding 'real world' use of phone after updates run out. If you are a major techie, likely more of an issue that to the everyday basic use of a smartphone. (making calls, checking email, opening apps like FB and Door Dash)
