This MSI Prestige 16 AI+ stands out as a thin, premium 16 inch OLED laptop with strong battery life, a very bright touchscreen, and solid everyday responsiveness. The Core Ultra X7 358H and Arc B390 graphics are praised for productivity, light coding, presentations, and even some esports gaming, while 32GB of memory and the 1TB SSD make it feel well equipped for long-term use. The main knocks are the large touchpad, shallow keyboard feel for some, and repeated reports of heat and fan noise under load or even at idle. It feels like a capable portable work machine if you value screen quality and memory over raw graphics power.

  • The OLED screen is reported to be very bright and around 1000 nits for everyday visibility.

  • The touchscreen is reported to be useful for quick dashboard navigation during impromptu presentations.

  • Battery life is reported to be strong for basic work, with potential full work-day use at lower brightness.

  • The laptop is reported to run e-sports titles at about 120 fps with tweaking while unplugged for over 1.5 hours.

  • The laptop is reported to run super hot with fans at full speed even when idle, which raises cooling concerns.

  • The touchpad is reported to have poor palm rejection, which can cause frustrating phantom clicks.

  • The $1400 price is criticized as overpriced for integrated graphics, with suggestions it should be closer to about $1000.

  • The included 1TB Micron QLC SSD is reported to have low sustained write speeds around 200MB/s despite high read speeds.

just incase anyones wondering, it comes with a 1tb micron qlc ssd which quickly exhausts cache and tops at 200mb/s write. Read is 6600mb/s. Going to replace the SSD with the 980 Pro from my G14.

The speakers are not great, definitely not as good as macbook pro and not even as good as the g14 (which are pretty good like macbook pro)

And linux compatability is -- okay. You have to turn PSR off right now because intel drivers aren't great on linux. Otherwise you get weird artifacts.

Im not sure if I'll keep this. As sleek and well built as it is, and as nice as the keyboard and screen are its not as high-end as I was hoping.

Local LLM performance is pretty good, memory bandwidth is about 120gb/s and GPU puts out 40+ tok/s depending on the model (7-9b parameter range)

Idle power draw on linux is about 3.5-5w, average draw in linux for browsing is 10w. Windows idle is about 8w, average is about 14w.

I had to uninstall norton on this, wild that companies still do this. Didn't have any extra software on my G14

I ended up picking it up today. It's a nice laptop. However, I don't like how big the trackpad is and the area below the keyboard is too long. Also, this thing runs super hot. Wasn't doing anything and fans were at all full speed and the chasis got really really hot. Very light weight. Nice build. Sturdy. Its a good laptop if you don't mind the large space below the keyboard and heat
This is definitely windows updates. After it updated, this thing is silent the fans are not spinning up and its cool to the touch

I get it man, you have every single high end tech on the planet, you didn't have to write this whole thing just to say it lol. There's plenty reasons for a gaming laptop, you might need professional apps on the go that only run on windows, you might want to play something while at your hotel room on a work convention and don't want to lug arround another device, you might no have space in your apartment for too many gadgets/desktop. Reasons are endless for that.
Gaming on a gaming laptop is awful. You'd be better off playing with a deck of cards. God help you if you forgot a mouse, which is about as annoying to carry around as a retroid pocket 6.

Picked one up last week. Works great except today I had issues where the Laptop didn't connect to the wifi, and when i selected the wifi it gave an error message saying it could not connect to network. After resetting the network divers and restarting the router it's working. Is anyone else having this issue?

Picked one up Sunday. Initially annoyed by the trackpad because I don't trust palm rejection, so I was resting my hands next to the giant trackpad. This resulted in phantom clicks when typing because the housing will press the trackpad button if enough weight is put on it. Eventually I learned to trust the palm rejection and it's been much better.

Running CachyOS and mostly everything works well, even the fingerprint reader. Great battery life so far.

When compiling software updates from AUR, the CPU is reportedly hitting 98 C. Not great! Haven't tried gaming, but that's probably not a good sign regarding it's cooling.

Bought a MSI laptop for $4500 in 2022. Had to go in for service twice. Never had any other laptops that needed service. Unacceptable for a computer at this price. I wouldn't buy an MSI.

I checked it out at my Costco location. It really heats up. I don't believe it has anything to do windows updates.

I got this a few days ago and both the laptop and the power brick run really hot.

I've read two comments here about the heat. One said the heat stopped after updates and the other said they didn't think that was it.

I've updated everything but it's still very hot.

Has anyone had any other experiences regarding the heat? I might return mine because of it but i like it otherwise.

MSI brand and integrated graphics card for $1400 is deal all because of DRAM shortage issue created by AI bubble. Laptop is not bad but 1200 would be perfect price tag (well demand and supply decide price tag in the end)

I went and checked out this laptop today at my local Costco. The keyboard felt nice to type on and the trackpad was huge. A red flag to me was that the machine was noticeably warm to the touch near the charging port and near the back vents, even though it was just sitting there being idle. Build quality also didn't feel too great, even compared to my Asus Vivobook S14 that I have now. I was hoping for a better impression, but gonna skip this one personally.

That is not similar configuration and Intel, while had a storng come back with their Panther Lake Lineup, don't get overwhelmed by all the positive reviews and choose very carefully. Let me explain why.The most hyped things about the Panther Lake Lineup is the integrated graphics and efficiency. However, it is very misleading and confusing for the end users. Intel has released around 10 Pathner Lake H Series CPUs as of now but among them only 4 SKUs (Ultra X9 388H, Ultra X9 378H, Ultra X7 368H, Ultra X7 358H) have this B390 Graphics (12 Xe Cores) and one (Core Ultra 5 338H) has Arc B370 Graphics (10 Xe Cores). All the rest of the Processors just have 4 Xe Cores, unlike older series, where the GPU Core count decreases gradually. As a result, Those CPU's integrated Graphics Performance, say the Core Ultra 7 356H of your example, has poor iGPU performance than older Arc 140V and 130V in Lunar Lake Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 5 and even slower than Arc 140T in Core Ultra 7 255H (Arrow Lake) as those are having 8 or 7 Xe Cores. Now regarding CPU performance, Intel never promised higher performance over Arrow Lake. So, you will get similar raw performance for that processor as from 255H or AMD's Ryzen AI 9 365/ 370/465/470. However, due to better efficiency, the battery life is better across the board. So, unless you are getting oneof those Processors with 12 Core B390M or 10 Core B370M Graphics, don't pay a lot of money over last generation Arrow Lake Processors. I would always get a Core Ultra 7 255H based or Ryzen AI 9 HX 470/370 or AI 9 365/465 based laptop by paying a lot extra over Non X sereis Panther Lake 300 series Chips. They will give you more or less same CPU performance, better iGPU performance and slightly less battery life.
Any recommendations if fan noise is the number 1 concern.

Yes, that is literally one of the fastest LPDDR5X speeds.
