This is a great controller, especially if you use the dpad. It can also wake the switch 2.

What?! No way it can wake the Switch 2? I didn't know there were any controllers besides the Switch 2 pro controller and the joycon that could do that.

Nice!Do you know if the back buttons are programmable from the home pause screen like the official Pro 2 controller or do you have to program it in the 8bit do software?

I'm 99% sure you'll have to do it in the Software. Not a HUGE deal but definitely more steps than just doing it in the switch software. I always just map my back buttons to L3 and R3 so once I do it, I never switch them off that setting

How does this controller compare to the 8BitDo Pro 2? I have that one and like it (less than the switch pro though).

Wondering the same. I had a Switch Pro controller but sold it with my Switch 1. Ended up getting a Switch 2 and haven't bought a new pro controller yet. But I have a 8Bitdo Pro 2 that I use for retro gaming so if I can have a single controller then that would be awesome.

And it has a charging dock? Think I'm just gonna buy now and ask questions later.....

From what I gather, the main differences are:
  • TMR sticks in the Pro 3 vs. Hall effect in the Pro 2. Supposed to be more accurate, more efficient, and more durable, but not going to be game changing unless you're ultra competitive or have drift on your current sticks.
  • Physical switches to lock the triggers on the 3 vs. software adjustment on the 2. I don't use these, but they really do become nice clicky buttons when engaged.
  • Magnetic swappable ABXY buttons on the 3. Can change between Nintendo and Xbox layouts. Doesn't really do anything for me.
  • 2 more mappable buttons on the back of the Pro 3. Again, I don't really use these.
  • Lower input lag on the 3. Probably not enough to notice unless you're ultra competitive.
  • The charging dock(!) This is the reason I'd buy the 3 over the 2. The dock doubles as the 2.4ghz receiver and keeps my desk less cluttered with cables. I was always bad at plugging in my controllers at the end of a session so they'd die mid match, that's an issue of the past now that I have the dock.
For what it's worth, I've never used the 2, but I've owned the 3 for about 8 months and I love it. Apparently I'm a violent gamer so OEM Sony controllers never last me longer than 6 months(its always due to stick drift), I feel like this thing is going to last me many years. I paid $55 for my Pro 3 on Amazon and to me it's worth even more than that, so its a no brainer at $37.
