No, you cut off the oxygen by sliding in metal plates when you're done cooking so the rest of your charcoal is saved.

I've had mine for 4+ years and have done a ton of cooks. This thing really works great. I throw some wood chunks in as well to get extra smoke. The computer for me has given me the most issues, disconnects a lot and over time the screen has faded. But i am able to get it set to the temp i want and do my cooks! Also really helps if you can give it a strong wifi signal.

Is $599 a good deal? I bought my 560 for $ 250-ish, 4 or 5 years ago

came here to say the same thing.. my temp setting knob and the computer was very wonky.. I reached out to them and they refused to honor the warranty . I had a back and fourth conversation with them about how the electronics on the electric smokers were supposed to be covered within the time frame I had contacted them ( And I purchased the unit directly from them) and they not only refused to cover the items they were actually rude.. I will never do business with them again.. its a shame because I thought it did the best job on a brisket.

Same. Feels like that's the right price point.

No. You can either estimate how much you need or choke out the embers with the slides. I've found that estimating enough is easier but you end up burning more in the end because it flow too well at the end.
