Over a crease? 🙄 I've been using folding phones for over 6 years now and although I've had my issues with them, the creases have never been one. Even the worse creases I eventually don't notice it after a few days of usage. I'll never go back to a regular bar phone, even if the creases on a folding phone swallow me up 😄
This AT&T Fold 8 Ultra offer stands out for the large trade in credit and the appeal of a bigger inner screen for multitasking, spreadsheets, and reading. The wider outer screen is also drawing interest from current Fold owners who want a more usable cover display. The main catch is the fine print around installments and credits, since upgrading can stop credits on the old phone while the remaining balance still has to be paid. Durability, crease visibility, and the lack of S Pen support also keep some buyers hesitant, making it a strong fit only if the foldable tradeoffs work for you.
Upgrade hunters with a qualifying flagship trade-in, because the credits can make the monthly cost work out better than expected.
Camera-focused buyers who expect flagship zoom and selfie features, because this foldable gives up telephoto reach, privacy-screen features, and stronger selfie hardware.
Folding durability concerns can include hinge or screen damage from small debris like sand, and some experiences report breakdowns within about two years.
The crease is reported to be minor at first and often easy to ignore after a few days or months, with some users saying it stays barely noticeable even after nearly a year. Others still worry about hinge failures, inner-screen protector lifting, and long-term fragility.
Yes. The old phone's bill credits stop when you upgrade, and the remaining installment balance still has to be paid. That can make the previous phone more expensive overall if you were counting on those credits.
Yes, if you want the best value. Paying off the old phone was described as necessary to avoid losing the existing credits, and the remaining balance still must be settled even if you upgrade.
No. A Fold 5 or Fold 3 trade-in was reported to top out at $1,000, so the full $1,900 credit does not appear to apply to every device. The exact value depends on the trade-in model and eligibility.
The minimum plan mentioned for full credit is $70 per month. That plan is described as covering the device through the bill credits, but it still requires a qualifying line and trade-in.
Having seen how bad the creases look after a year on some friends foldable phones, I'm surprised anyone still buy these. All my friends with them regret the purchase.
That's complete B. S. I've had all of them since they started coming out in 2019. Never had a problem. And with the new titanium layer on the 8 the crease is practically nonexistent.

Why? That's why you purchase warranty with it. When it messes up and are no longer made because they're 1 or 2 more models into it they upgrade you to the newer model for around $150.

I don't trust the durability either. You get a spec of sand underneath the screen or the hinge and its toast.

It's hardly B.S.. It's great that you personally have not had issues, but that doesn't mean other people haven't.
Reddit has a nice post about: "Results: Study About The Z Fold Series [2025 Edition]" that gives a lot of details and statistics about the issues others (not you) have.

Why? Apple and Samsung have historically been very close on price, with Galaxy phones even being priced higher (e.g., S26 is $100 more than the iPhone 17). It's definitely possible the iPhone fold will be more expensive than the Z Fold 8 Ultra, but I'd expect it to be priced very competitively.
Ok MAYBE I'm dumb. My Z Fold 7 nets me the (apparently) elusive $1900. When I subtract THAT out, I'm getting cheaper than I pay now. Am I crazy?
Looking at the Ultra 1tb - $75/month.. The 1900 looks like a credit of $52.77 a month (over 36 months).
Also I love the zfold but I know it's not something everyone wants or needs. I really like it for looking at spreadsheets on the fly cuz I'm getting older lol
Min plan which gives you full credit on ATT is $70/month. So your plan pays for the device. Nothing is really off. Not to mention you lost a top tier phone in trade in to get this
I believe you're able to do this, the bill credits will cease on the previous phone and begin again with this one (which ultimately makes your previous phone more expensive)
correct -just called they want me to pay off the balance on the phone for which i am already receiving credits

No S pen or stylus support
No Privacy screen
Less optical zoom, 3x instead of 5x
Weaker selfie camera
Probably some more things but I lost interest after a couple review videos. Not worth to give all that stuff up for a fold imo
