This clamp-on desk power strip is aimed at tidy under-desk setups, with five outlets, six USB ports, and a night light that can keep cables and devices off the desktop. The mounting idea works well for standing desks because the strip moves with the desk, and the switch can be handy for controlling monitors or external drives. The main concerns are durability and safety, with reports of units dying in about 30 days, questions about USB charging design, and worries about added electronics in a compact housing. It is also described as UL listed, but the outlet and plug-slot layout may be awkward for stiff cords.

  • The clamp design can keep under-desk connections stable when switching between standing and sitting desk heights.

  • The power strip is reportedly UL listed, which supports basic electrical safety compliance.

  • The clamp power strip can be used to power multiple under-desk devices while keeping cable routing organized.

  • The power strip can fail within about 30 days, with failures reportedly starting with the night lights or USB ports.

  • The product may lack clear UL-style verification in some listings, which can make safety confidence harder.

  • The added USB charging and night-light electronics can increase fire or brownout risk without necessarily tripping a breaker.

  • The USB charging design may be limited to 5V 2.1A for USB-A, suggesting a shared charging circuit that reduces performance.

Around 30 seconds into this product video you see a UL logo on the bottom sticker: https://www.amazon.com/vdp/0768ad...5euEoqsgMx

Thanks, I see that now. Strange they didn't include it in the description.

USBA is 5v2.1a max--10w. This suggests to me they're using one charging circuit for both USBA and USBC so that they don't need to use a more expensive and higher powered USBC controller for the USBC only charging. It's not technically difficult. They are just cheap.
The chargers that deliver high power over usb are usually GaN, and they aren't cheap. Chinese chargers over 60w need a certification that is not cheap by Chinese standards, that's why we don't see that many. USB-A Apple chargers are 5 volts at 2.4 amps (12w) and the old android fast chargers went up to 18w. USB-C goes much higher of course.

I glued a hard drive magnet underneath my desk, then glued another hard drive magnet to a surge protector. All the monitors, lamps, fans, etc plug in under the desk. Switching between standing or sitting height doesn't matter since the whole power strip moves with the desk.

To be fair, that was a lithium ion battery, which is significantly more risky than something like this.

So much furniture comes with power and USB now, most of it is of unknown origin (I have a couch with USB and a desk with power and USB and I don't think either mention UL listings).

Not saying any of this is 100% safe, just saying that if power strips have an electrical issue they will trip a circuit breaker before causing a fire, whereas batteries are the thing that causes a fire irregardless of what they're plugged into.
Don't buy furniture with electronics? That's just weird.

Unfortunately that is incorrect for a device like this. If it was just a regular power strip with no extra electronics for USB charging and night lights, you would be more on track. But, once you start adding in the components needed to provide charging and lighting, you can absolutely start a fire (or even brown out your sensitive computer equipment) without pulling the 15 or 20 amps it takes to trip a breaker. In this case, the "fireproof housing" lowers the risk but doesn't eliminate it.

These days, items like this would sell better if they only had 1 or 2 AC plugs and a dozen USBs.
