TLDR: charcoal is a pain, go with gas or pellet

As a charcoal grill user, I wouldn't recommend it for people new to grilling. Managing charcoal in any grill requires a lot of oversight and expertise. Adding fuel isn't as easy as putting in more briquettes, you have to prime them or they may not light in the existing charcoal. So unless you're smoking brisket, go with gas or pellet and save yourself the hassle.

As someone who used a propane grill for a long time, if you want to make great steaks and other meats that require a high temp sear, you need to go charcoal.

I agree that the flavors definitely better than gas. Good luck at the next bbq bud.
