Wait, when did Phillips buy out Wiz? Or Phillips always made the Wiz?

As Eragorn mentioned, the price difference is fairly large. I have this setup, and it's more than good enough for MOST people. This is substantially better than Govee with the camera.

If you are deep in the Hue system and have a nice HT setup, then yes the Hue one may be worth it.

But check out Fancy LEDs if you want the best setup if you are spending that money anyway. By far the best I have personally seen.

2019 lol (I learned today as well).
Philip's parent company (Signify) owns them. Pretty smart idea imo to give Philips a budget lineup. IMO more would buy the WiZ lights since the Hue brand is generally well-reviewed, just too expensive for most.

Phillips acquired them a long time ago! At least when I purchased their recessed lights, they already had the Phillips logo on them. And if you don't mind tinkering, Wiz devices integrate easily with Home Assistant. Once configured, we control everything over the Apple Home system. These were better options back in the day because they normally connect to WiFi instead of typical bridges. But with Matter becoming the mainstream, I tend to choose Matter-IoT over any other ones.

it should work for everything as long as you're not using one of the tv's built-in apps since tv's don't do video out via hdmi. Just note that it's a 60hz limit over 4k so you wouldn't want to game over it on a pc imo.

This reminded me of Philips Ambilight TVs - which I'm surprised to see are still being made (albeit not plasma).

They FINALLY entered the US a couple years ago. They're only on the budget lineups from what I've seen though.

What exactly is different from this versus the starter kit? https://www.amazon.com/WiZ-Connec...0F6Q29BDM/

The only thing I'm really seeing is smart app access, is that correct? What would I miss without that?

Sad, I don't think I can fit this properly with the flush mount of my LG G5 tv.

If flush I wouldn't recommend it. IMO you want 2-3" from the wall at minimum with this.

Just keep in mind that the WiZ sync box only has one HDMI input, unlike the Hue one which has four, so you'll need an external HDMI switcher if you have multiple devices. It's also limited to HDMI 2.0 (4K at 60Hz), meaning no 120Hz gaming for consoles. But for under 100 with the backlight included, it's a fraction of the Hue price and a solid step up from camera-based setups.
