Think this tool is any massive improvement over the earlier or standard "non nuke" variety of this tool or pretty much the same thing ?

Not sure... I couldn't find any differences between the "Nuke" branded RNKSRS01 and the "Subcompact" R8648B, other than black rubber overmolding vs grey rubber overmolding. Molding, cutouts, specs all look identical between the two. I have the R8648B I got for $79 (tool only) and it's been fantastic. This Nuke version seems fine, but is it worth an extra $60 just for one 4AH Max Output battery? Eh....

I still miss the Ridgid OCTANE branding... Also wanted to buy into the tool system but they discontinued Octane before I bought any.
