The 97 inch LG G5 open box is mainly a giant OLED for dark rooms and wall mounting, with the flush LG wall mount included instead of a stand. The picture can look stunning at this size, and several panels with 3,000 to 4,200 hours passed burn in tests and arrived working well. The main caution is that the 97 inch model uses older panel tech than smaller G5 sizes, and open box units can be floor models with heavy hours, missing accessories, or burn in risk. A strong fit if size matters most.
Home theater buyers with a dark room who want the biggest OLED image, because the 97-inch screen feels immersive and the picture can look incredible at that size.
Shoppers comfortable evaluating an open-box display unit in person, because condition and hours vary widely and some units still test clean after thousands of hours.
It can be, because many open-box units are floor models or customer returns with thousands of hours, sometimes around 3,500 to 4,238 hours, and some have visible blotchiness or burn-in risk. The 5-year panel burn-in warranty and full open-box warranty help, but the panel condition still matters a lot.
Best Buy usually will not deliver open-box TVs and often only bubble-wraps them for pickup, but some units in non-manufacturer boxes have been delivered. Installation or mounting may still be available, and several buyers paid for setup to avoid handling the TV themselves.
No. The 55/65/77/83-inch G5 models use newer panel technology, while the 97/98-inch version uses older panel tech and is not comparable on G5-specific benefits. The main advantage of the 97-inch model is size, not the newer panel performance.
No. The G5 series includes a flush wall mount instead of a stand, and the included LG wall mount is part of the appeal because it lets the TV sit very close to the wall.
Use the open-box link and try different zip codes, including searches within roughly 250-mile ranges. Availability can vary a lot by store, so checking nearby markets can surface units that do not show up in your immediate area.

A big important detail -- the the 55/65/77/83" OLEDs use the newest technology while the 98" oled uses much older tech.
Even though they're all G5 series, the 98" uses an older panel And features and is not comparable. You're paying for the large size but not getting the real benefits of the G5
edit: it's also worth pointing out that many of these open box models that bestbuy is selling have significant hours and extensive burn in. talking 3500+ hours of runtime, running mostly demo content on full brightness. These don't seem to be tested beyond cosmetic condition, accessories and possibly "does it turn on"

You're correct, it can!
But a lot of these g5 97" sets were the "main display" in bestbuy stores' LG Oled setups.
These open box models are also rated "fair" condition, which is one of the lowest on their rating.
Even if it's in great condition, the TV itself is several generations old and should not have been called a G5 series.
For the price and the potential issues, it's a risky buy -- not that you would be stuck with it, but best case scenario you get a "not amazing" Tv and worst you're dealing with a return.
I love my OLEDs, I have a G5 77, and an older one, absolutely amazing. But with the problems on the 98" models I would just recommend getting a non-OLED in the 100" size. Any other case I'm all for the G5
G5 has a 5 year panel burn-in warranty and open box units have full warranty. I've never seen that size on display at a store so likely customer returns anyway. As for performance differences in panel sizes, good luck seeing those differences in actual content. Size difference will be obvious.
Open box 97 is floor model . They do not have one sitting in back the 97 inch was always special order from Samsung .
With being said the amount hours this open box has is a lot. Tv was turned on daily running at least 10hrs a day 7 days a week

Nothing says "I know what I'm talking about" like saying an LG product was only special order from Samsung
Man, I gotta check this out. While I'm reluctant to purchase an Open-Box item of this caliber, I have done it once before. I actually have an LG 65" B6 OLED from 2017 that I bought Open-Box from Best Buy. It was a gamble, but it's still running and has minor image retention (and we're talking 10 year old OLED tech).
The Best Buy near me has one available in "Fair" condition, possible worth looking at. I was going to move from a 106" projection setup to a 98" MicroLED for around $5K, but would much rather have OLED tech for my space.

Best Buy open box is all over the map
I have seen one marked " fair" online and it was a customer return in the box with all the accessories and TV still wrapped in the plastic
I suspect they have some latitude in marking these dependent how much they want to get rid of them, because I have seen " excellent" that should have been marked " fair" as well
A screen this big was probably the store display...but I have seen a 100" TCL QM8 sitting in the box that was a customer return before
The other thing I have seen is instore pricing being CHEAPER than it was online as well
Moral of the story....go to the store and look at it
Most of these tvs are missing the stand/mount/remote and no box, but they will usually give you a free remote since they have so many on hand.
Best Buy will not deliver open box tvs and will only bubble wrap the TV which you will have to pick up yourself. They will provide free mounting service due to the size.
Even though returns are possible, doing so with a tv this large is an endeavor in and of itself. Good luck to anybody playing the open box lottery.
Before they actually posted these Open Boxes at these prices, I went in and negotiated a display model 97 inch. I have a dark room, and tried the Bravia 5 98 inch, but was underwhelming. So I really wanted an OLED, which this model is the only OLED in this size. It had 3k hours, and I paid $7500. I bought the 5 yr Geek Squad Protection for $1300 as well. The TV is incredible, and I know they basically call this 97 inch version a G5, but it has the tech mostly of a c5. In a dark room, the usual features of a g5 don't really come into play. I thoroughly did burn in tests in the store to ensure nothing there. If you can find an open box and want this specific model which retails for $18k+, its a phenomenal deal.
