While clear lid on a grill sounds like a benefit, I found below info about the practicality of a clear lid. Knowing this, I won't spend extra on a clear lid.

Maintenance DrawbacksGrease Buildup: Smoke, oil splatters, and carbon residue bake onto the inner glass surface within just a few uses.
Loss of Visibility: Without frequent, thorough scrubbing after every cookout, the "clear" window loses its transparency, defeating its main purpose.

I have this exact grill, and it has been amazing. As for the glass part, what you can see clearly is the flaming, even after a few months' usage. You wont see how well steak or sausages are cooked without lifting the lid though. Almost everything is steel or aluminum though and there's quite a bit you have to build yourself, including wiring up a battery bank for the light rings on the burner dials etc and also fitting the gas lines to the side burner. I paid a good bit less from amazon though.
