So why do you see higher MERV often promoted?
Because consumers are dumb, they think that a filters job is to filter and the better it filters the better it must be and the more they will pay. But the fact is that the higher the MERV the more restrictive it is jacking up your AC bills, reducing the airflow from the vents, potentially causing freezover, and clogging much faster than lower MERV filters.
Stick with MERV8 or below, they will perform better, protect your AC, and are cheaper to boot!
