Great price for an electric sprayer and I might get it just for that. The herbicide, however, is pretty weak. It's a contact herbicide, which means it'll kill any cells it touches and only those cells. That's why you need to coat every leaf to kill the entire weed. And why you need to use it when weeds are small. The biggest advantage is that it works fast, often within minutes. HOWEVER, it will not kill the roots, which are underground. So if you have weeds that can regrow from the root, e.g. perennials, this won't be very effective. The instructions even say that you may need repeated applications, and even then it won't work for large-root perennials like pokeweed and Chinese yam.

In contrast, a systemic herbicide like glyphosate gets absorbed into the leaves. It then gets transported throughout the plant, including the roots, permanently killing it. A big advantage is that you don't need to coat the entire weed. You can just spray a single leaf and it'll still kill the whole plant. That means it'll work on large weeds. In fact, I've eradicated large morning glory and wild grape vines by spraying just one leaf. And you only need one application. The biggest disadvantage is that it may take up to a week before you see results.

Do you have a recommendation for what you are suggesting of a common weed killer that goes on sale regularly?

Alternatively you can buy 41% glyphosate concentrate online. This is much better if you are going to use it more than spot treating. Buy a $10 pump sprayer and mix it yourself. Takes two minutes and will save you lots of money. It's hard to find in stores now because of the Bayer Roundup issues. Don't worry, you aren't going to die using it a few times the people that were getting cancer were using it regularly for their jobs. I just got compare-and-save brand off Amazon a week ago. You can also adjust the potency depending on what you are trying to kill.

These things have always been hit or miss for me. I've used it before and within just a few hrs, it could see it working.. I've also used it before and it didn't do jack shit..

I use this as a quick way to control weeds that pop up between pavers, the sidewalk and a couple of areas with stones. I use it every 3 weeks or so because as was stated above, this only kills the part of the weed that is above ground and they often come back (but not always). I wouldn't use this to try and clear an area of weeds, you're better off using something else or putting down cardboard and waiting, this stuff is really for spot treating small, individual weeds.

Use it on a sunny day if possible, it works faster and better. Wear goggles and don't use it on a windy day or when breeze is blowing in your direction, you'll inevitably breathe some of it in and it can irritate your nose and throat. If you're using it to clean up an area aesthetically like I am, don't use it on larger weeds, they'll "die," but will stay attached to the ground and you'll have to pull them by hand anyway.

The results are similar to using a concentrated vinegar (not household white vinegar), though they work very differently. I use this instead of vinegar now because concentrated vinegar stinks, it REALLY can irritate your nose, sinuses & throat, burn your skin, and it's harsh on the surface soil (microbes, earthworms). But both the Ortho and vinegar break down quickly and are actually used as food for microbes and they leave no toxic residue in the soil, though the vinegar will acidify the surface soil temporarily. (Btw, never use table salt as an ingredient in a homemade weed killer, it will damage the soil for months if not years.)

The sprayer jug itself is great, I'm still using my first one going on 4-5 years I think, I haven't even had to change the batteries (which I'm 99% sure you can). Once you have the sprayer, they sell a concentrated refill that gives you 2 (gallon) refills worth for ~$30.

41% glyphosate concentrate 2.5 gallons can be mixed to 40 gallons . It will cost $ 1.25 -1.50 per gallon . more than 10 time cheaper.

Yeah, Home Depot no longer carries any glyphosate products. However, I just got this on Amazon. $20 for a 32oz concentrate. Great thing is that it already has a surfactant. Can't wait to use it full strength on the pokeweed and Chinese yam next month.

I just got this on Amazon. $20 for a 32oz concentrate. Great thing is that it already has a surfactant to increase absorption. You should also consider triclopyr. And if you don't want anything growing, consider an herbicide that inhibits weeds for several months.

I just got this glyphosate on Amazon. It's not on sale but $20 for a 32oz concentrate is pretty cheap. You only use 1.5-3oz for a gallon of water so it should lasts you several seasons. Great thing is that it already has a surfactant to increase absorption. Be patient because it may take a week before you see any signs that it's working. Basically, you're starving the weeds.

really appreciate the suggestion! i am struggling with either dallis grass or goose grass weed and about to scorched earth! if you have any other suggestions for this, please let me know!
