Riding primarily on throttle or maximum pedal assist (PAS 4–5) on steep inclines or headwinds drains the 692Wh battery fastest (RV Magazine Review).
This is the most common range reported by reviewers during typical city/suburban commuting using moderate pedal assist (Mountain Weekly News Review, The Gadgeteer Review).
Riders providing consistent pedaling effort on flat terrain in low assist mode approach near-factory range figures (AppleInsider Review).
The proprietary charging port doesn't bother me. I'm coming from a five year-old Hyper 36V bike that has a standard barrel connector. For me there's no practical difference.
More concerning is I received a Pro unit that has scratches on the display and light. And it has deep scratch on battery casing. Apparently, I got a demo or display unit. I don't even understand the wear on the display and light. It's not a touch display.
I will edit this comment, if I get a response from Vanpowers.
Update: July 31, I got an email response saying that they have received a lot of emails because of the current promotion and their technicians just returned from a business trip. They expect a technician to respond within 3 working days.
Update 2: They replied on August 4:
- suggested it is a protective film on the display (it isn't... a double-checked... there are scratches that can be felt in the plastic)
- said the scratches on the headlight won't impede functionality
- suggested I get touch up paint for the deep scratch on the battery casing (what??)
- no apology or offer for the inconvenience caused
Update 3: I replied on August 4 suggesting a solution. Two days later, on August 6, I received their standard "we'll get back to you soon" email.
Update 4: I received a reply from the tech staff on August 7. They made what I think is a reasonable solution to compensate me for the issues I experienced. I will update this thread when that is completed.
Update 5: I received a reply from Vanpowers confirming their commitment to customer satisfaction on August 11. I'm happy to report that, though it took longer than anticipated, they stand behind their products. I'm enjoying my new ebike and anticipate many years of ownership.
