Is this a good product or a waste of money? Alternative recommendations would be appreciated if this is trash

I have had good luck with the zep powdered version. I use it in a slow shower and slow kitchen sink every few months and it keeps them draining well.

we always avoid these types of products for "routine drain maintenance"

instead, we use a combination of vinegar, baking soda, hot water, etc. that does the trick

I've found that just plain old lye (100% sodium hydroxide) is the king of drain cleaning.

No perfume, no dyes, no goofy names - just crazy strong clog busting.

At $5 a pound, it's cheap too.

Gloves and safety glasses are mandatory, this stuff is no joke.

I had been using this type of drain maintenance products for a while. Unfortunately, my kitchen sink still plugged up off and on. What I do now is to fill the sink with extra hot water mix with a bottle of dish soap and let it flow into the drain before bedtime. I have been doing this once every 3 months and have not had drain problem in the last few years.

In my experience, mostly a waste of money, but it can make some difference.

Doesn't this stuff like weaken / eat metal?

For most homes with cast iron, galvanized steel, copper, or PVC drain lines, occasional use according to the label is unlikely to damage the pipes. If you're needing drain cleaner frequently, it's usually better to identify and remove the underlying cause of the clog rather than relying on repeated chemical treatments.

That's got to be ridiculously expensive...Nothing beats NaOH at wrecking peptide bonds (think long bundles of annoying ass hair and those pieces of turkey breast you threw up after a long night of drinking at The Drunken Clam) and turning fat into soap (tri-fatty-acid + NaOH = salt = dissolves in water). Just make sure your plumbing can handle highly-caustic (basic) chemicals. If you're not sure, there's thing that rhymes with doogle and is on the internet.
