GE Profile Opal nugget ice makers are prized for producing the soft nugget ice that feels close to Sonic, and the newer V2 is described as easier to clean and better than the original. The side tank setup and optional three year warranty at Sam's add convenience, and distilled or filtered water is repeatedly recommended to slow buildup. The main drawbacks are noise, difficult deep cleaning, and repeated reports of short lifespans or eventual failure, even though a few units have lasted years. A solid nugget ice option if you are willing to maintain it carefully.

Because the people are hot and dry and they want something cold and wet.

What don't you understand?

Also be prepared to disassemble it for proper cleaning. Just do8ng the vinegar flush will NOT get all the crud out. There's and interior reservoir that gets nasty.
The fact these machines are disposable (something echoed here and Reddit/Youtube), require tons of maintenance that takes time and effort, and cost almost $300 make them a non-buy for me and many others. Spend a couple hundred more and get a countertop commercial machine. Faster ice production, made to be far easier to clean on the job by minimal experienced employees.

People love this machine but hate the longevity which explains why people have refrigerators that break down all the time. It's the ice maker.
watch any appliance repair person talk about fridges, they all say if you want a refrigerator to last then get one without an ice maker. Ice makers are almost always the issue. ANd they say if you MUST have one, then get one thats in the freezer and not in the fridge portion. and they say definitely dont get one with external ice/water dispenser

Ice trays don't cost $300 and need to be replaced every 2 years. I don't understand people being suckers and handing over their hard earned money to corporations cheaply made machines designed to break.

Lot of reviews on Sam's Club talk about pre-mature failure or whining noise...seems like the cheaper $65 Hamilton Beach one is better value.
