One big disadvantage of cheap 4k IPS is that they don't come with DP 2.1 ports, and DSC with DP 1.4 takes up 2 GPU lanes, so running more than 2 monitors at full 4k/10bit/144Hz+ is difficult/impossible unless GPU comes with more than 1 HDMI port.

I like high refresh rate (at least 120Hz) even for productivity tasks and gaming monitors are just fine for my purposes (good enough color), but it's an important quirk that they don't have DP 2.1 unlike expensive OLED or dedicated productivity monitors. If someone bought ~$1000 4k monitors instead they could connect 4 directly to a modern GPU.
