This is a budget Galaxy A37 5G deal that stands out for its midrange specs, long software support, and strong value as a backup or travel phone. The 6.7 inch AMOLED display, 5,000 mAh battery, IP68 rating, and six years of updates make it appealing, and it also gets praise for emulation and decent camera performance. The main drawbacks are the 6GB RAM, no microSD slot, and reports of noticeable One UI lag. Metro's 365 day unlock lock and frequent port in and checkout problems are the biggest caveats.
Common Questions (8)
Yes, a Google Voice number can work for the port-in promo, but it often needs to be unlocked in Google Voice first and may need a linked live mobile number plus the $3 Google Voice unlock fee. Enter the GV number as the account number, use the GV voicemail PIN, and some checkouts may still reject it depending on Metro's validation.
Some users report the phone can work with a T-Mobile SIM or eSIM setup, but others hit no-service, calling, or messaging issues until they toggle SIM settings, reset, or re-seat the SIM tray. It is not a guaranteed out-of-box cross-carrier use case.
It has 6GB RAM, and several comments describe noticeable UI lag compared with phones like the Moto G Stylus, even though benchmarks and some users say the chip is solid for a midrange phone. It should be fine for basic use, but it is not a speed-focused phone.
It stays locked to Metro for about a year, but it can still be used as a Wi‑Fi device or backup/travel phone during that period. Some users also transfer the eSIM to another phone or keep the device offline until unlock.
Yes. The deal can be treated as a one-month purchase if you only want the phone, then you can turn off autopay and let the prepaid line expire; the unlock clock still runs from activation. Some users also mention downgrading or moving the eSIM later, but the phone remains locked until the 12-month requirement is met.
The current Metro unlock policy is 365 days of active service starting from activation. The phone is not expected to unlock after just one month, and the unlock typically happens 1-2 days after the 12-month mark.
No. Storage is fixed at the included 128GB because there is no microSD expansion slot.
A Tello number is generally not eligible because it runs on the T-Mobile network, and similar T-Mobile/MVNO-origin numbers can be rejected by Metro's promo checker. Numbers from non-T-Mobile carriers or some other MVNOs are more likely to pass.
