This is a budget Galaxy A37 5G deal that stands out for its midrange specs, long software support, and strong value as a backup or travel phone. The 6.7 inch AMOLED display, 5,000 mAh battery, IP68 rating, and six years of updates make it appealing, and it also gets praise for emulation and decent camera performance. The main drawbacks are the 6GB RAM, no microSD slot, and reports of noticeable One UI lag. Metro's 365 day unlock lock and frequent port in and checkout problems are the biggest caveats.

Common Questions (8)

  • Yes, a Google Voice number can work for the port-in promo, but it often needs to be unlocked in Google Voice first and may need a linked live mobile number plus the $3 Google Voice unlock fee. Enter the GV number as the account number, use the GV voicemail PIN, and some checkouts may still reject it depending on Metro's validation.

  • Some users report the phone can work with a T-Mobile SIM or eSIM setup, but others hit no-service, calling, or messaging issues until they toggle SIM settings, reset, or re-seat the SIM tray. It is not a guaranteed out-of-box cross-carrier use case.

  • It has 6GB RAM, and several comments describe noticeable UI lag compared with phones like the Moto G Stylus, even though benchmarks and some users say the chip is solid for a midrange phone. It should be fine for basic use, but it is not a speed-focused phone.

  • It stays locked to Metro for about a year, but it can still be used as a Wi‑Fi device or backup/travel phone during that period. Some users also transfer the eSIM to another phone or keep the device offline until unlock.

  • Yes. The deal can be treated as a one-month purchase if you only want the phone, then you can turn off autopay and let the prepaid line expire; the unlock clock still runs from activation. Some users also mention downgrading or moving the eSIM later, but the phone remains locked until the 12-month requirement is met.

  • The current Metro unlock policy is 365 days of active service starting from activation. The phone is not expected to unlock after just one month, and the unlock typically happens 1-2 days after the 12-month mark.

  • No. Storage is fixed at the included 128GB because there is no microSD expansion slot.

  • A Tello number is generally not eligible because it runs on the T-Mobile network, and similar T-Mobile/MVNO-origin numbers can be rejected by Metro's promo checker. Numbers from non-T-Mobile carriers or some other MVNOs are more likely to pass.

Cricket is not. But they require actual paid service for 6 months.

No VoIP numbers and no T-Mobile or T-Mobile MVNO numbers
Cricket now requires 365 days for purchases since July 1, 2026.

I've never used Lyca mobile, but it should work too since it apparently currently uses AT&T network. Oh and I've ported out lots of times from different places, just not Infimobile, not sure if that was clear. It's always possible, but some places make it more difficult.
Lyca is the WORST carrier of all. I had lots of connection issues so I cancelled after a week. The auto pay was confirmed off and they still charged me the $25. Bold face liars with telling me they will refund in 24-48 hours. Their reviews are as bad as it gets.

I do this every few years, so I have a metro stylus that I got a couple of years back and it is unlocked. That is the phone I used for this year's travels and will continue to use until the Samsung phone auto-unlocks next summer. I like metro phones but the limited system and security updates limit their usefulness for my purposes. The Samsung will get updates for six years. I considered getting the s25 Fe for $100 and keeping it for four years but it sold out and they never restocked.
I mean plan wise. Do you pay for Metro service? How do you use phone when traveling if its locked?

Okay, I figured out a way to do it on my active Metro account and get the $40 add a line for cheap, but maybe this is because I already had an extra google voice number from the past that expired over a year ago(email confirmation), but was somehow still active on my email and I just used a $2 free mint trial sim that I purchased from Target forever ago and got discounted but had never used. Then I just spent the $3 to unlock my old voice number(again, I guess it was never claimed and it was still letting me use it for calls and texts for some reason even though the number expired over a year ago and was not attached to any active line of cell service) and now I have a free phone on the way. This is just to have an extra phone around, so I will never pay for a plan on it other than the $40 I just spent for one month. The old phone I used to do this was my Motorola G7 Play from 2021. I may be an idiot and not understand any of what I just did, but maybe this info will be useful to someone. Still want to replace my daily phone which is a moto stylus, but I am on the $25 a month plan and I would rather wait until next year to get a new one since my current one has no issues.

I just used a new trial mint sim I had purchased last year for $2 from Target. Popped it in my old phone that had no service - it does not have to be a Mint sim. If all you need is a number to port, just pop in a cheap trial sim from some company and attach it to a gmail account and get a free voice number and port that for $3 bucks. Hey, like I said - I am pretty sure I was not understanding what everyone is doing in the comments and I was getting confused. It doesn't even have to be an old phone. All you have to do is take your current phone, pop in a cheap sim, attach a google voice from a gmail account(or any alternative I am clueless about) and then port your google voice number for $3 and get the metro phone. If there is any easier way, someone explain it to me because I am about to do this with another I will purchase after the new A37 one arrives because I have another old unused trial from mint that I got for $2. My understanding is you need a valid cell service to get a gmail voice number and then port it. The you just use the gmail voice number and create a pin and use the dummy zip code for it to port and get the phone for $40. And then you can just pop in your usual sim again and your phone goes back to normal. Seriously, if I am being dumb....everybody just say it. Because I feel dumb right now.

Number barn
I ported out a google voice number to do this. no issues. Cost $3. Submit your google voice number with the pin you create in your google voice account and then just use a dummy zipcode, if need be.

I only pay Metro for the first month of service. The phone will auto-unlock after a year, then I will use it as a travel phone. I do not use metro service when I travel I use an esim. Gigsky gives me 5gb every 15 days (data only) because I have the US Bank altitude connect card. I use Google voice to phone and text when abroad.
