This is a budget Galaxy A37 5G deal that stands out for its midrange specs, long software support, and strong value as a backup or travel phone. The 6.7 inch AMOLED display, 5,000 mAh battery, IP68 rating, and six years of updates make it appealing, and it also gets praise for emulation and decent camera performance. The main drawbacks are the 6GB RAM, no microSD slot, and reports of noticeable One UI lag. Metro's 365 day unlock lock and frequent port in and checkout problems are the biggest caveats.

Common Questions (8)

  • Yes, a Google Voice number can work for the port-in promo, but it often needs to be unlocked in Google Voice first and may need a linked live mobile number plus the $3 Google Voice unlock fee. Enter the GV number as the account number, use the GV voicemail PIN, and some checkouts may still reject it depending on Metro's validation.

  • Some users report the phone can work with a T-Mobile SIM or eSIM setup, but others hit no-service, calling, or messaging issues until they toggle SIM settings, reset, or re-seat the SIM tray. It is not a guaranteed out-of-box cross-carrier use case.

  • It has 6GB RAM, and several comments describe noticeable UI lag compared with phones like the Moto G Stylus, even though benchmarks and some users say the chip is solid for a midrange phone. It should be fine for basic use, but it is not a speed-focused phone.

  • It stays locked to Metro for about a year, but it can still be used as a Wi‑Fi device or backup/travel phone during that period. Some users also transfer the eSIM to another phone or keep the device offline until unlock.

  • Yes. The deal can be treated as a one-month purchase if you only want the phone, then you can turn off autopay and let the prepaid line expire; the unlock clock still runs from activation. Some users also mention downgrading or moving the eSIM later, but the phone remains locked until the 12-month requirement is met.

  • The current Metro unlock policy is 365 days of active service starting from activation. The phone is not expected to unlock after just one month, and the unlock typically happens 1-2 days after the 12-month mark.

  • No. Storage is fixed at the included 128GB because there is no microSD expansion slot.

  • A Tello number is generally not eligible because it runs on the T-Mobile network, and similar T-Mobile/MVNO-origin numbers can be rejected by Metro's promo checker. Numbers from non-T-Mobile carriers or some other MVNOs are more likely to pass.

Does the 365-day unlock time mean 365 days of active service or just 365 days in general? Would I be able to cancel the plan after paying the initial $40 fee and then unlock it a year from now?

365 days after activation. No need to pay for more than one month.

Yes, discharge the phone to 50%, turn it off, and throw it in a drawer. It will auto-unlock 11 months later. You can also use it as a WiFi device for the 11 months without service.

I get one of these phones every few years and use it as a travel phone when we travel abroad. No banking information, no cash app, no brokerage apps on the phone. Never need to worry if it gets stolen, lost, or broken.
do you cancel at 31 days? I dont want to be charge because i past the 30 days window?

"Port in" means transfer a number you already own. If you don't have one or don't want to use your current mobile number, you can get a free google voice account and pay $3 to port it to another carrier. That's what I did and the whole process was seemless.

I am doing that right now! But I am stuck at personal information. I entered the phone number that i am using from Google Voice. Next page is now asking me for Account number, password or PIN and Zip code. What information do I enter here?

OK, this is going to help A LOT of people.

I tried this deal yesterday on a number I created on Google Voice just yesterday.

I forgot to unlock it and it got held up in limbo. When I tried again it said "this number is not available,,, something something, and it gave me a different deal with new number.

I tied the mobileX somone recommended, no good because I not had a new enough spare Sim card.

Then I found USMobile for $4.98, and Sim card delivered free.

But before I pulled the trigger on USMobile I tried chat with Metro.

I told them truth, that I forgot to release the number with my carrier, and it is released now, but account creation is stuck in limbo.

When asked what carrier, I said Google 😂, They probably though Google Fi but it's still the trough.

They said my number is on a port hold and to call this number for porting a phone number help.

Magic Number is 8005187519

Called, said same story, they cleared the port holdup, then they checked if it's still available, it was,,, and bam, done and done.

Just successfully placed the order.

Hope this helps.

Can I get a second phone (A37)? I just received the first one 2 days ago. Is there a discount on plan for the second line, like $30 instead of $40? Pls someone confirm, thanks,

I turn off autopay and just let the plan die after the month is up. No need to cancel since it is prepaid service. Take a screenshot with autopay off if you want to be double safe but I have never had a problem.

I went through the checkout process and everything seemed to be working fine. My number was eligible. When I got to the final page where it says "checking to reserve your number", it breaks with a 503 error and says "Something went wrong. Don't worry, we're working on it. Refresh or try again shortly." I go back to restart the checkout process and it acts like I already have an account. I can't change my account PIN and it says my phone number is already reserved. Anyone encountered this?
