Past two metro deals I grabbed Razr and Moto G Stylus had 8GB of ram. This A37 has 6GB, there is also an option for a a17 or tcl which has 4GB.

Back when the unlock was 60days, i would always buy one of these as a spare phone, now that it's 365 days, its not worth it.

This is a budget Galaxy A37 5G deal that stands out for its midrange specs, long software support, and strong value as a backup or travel phone. The 6.7 inch AMOLED display, 5,000 mAh battery, IP68 rating, and six years of updates make it appealing, and it also gets praise for emulation and decent camera performance. The main drawbacks are the 6GB RAM, no microSD slot, and reports of noticeable One UI lag. Metro's 365 day unlock lock and frequent port in and checkout problems are the biggest caveats.

  • The Galaxy A37 can receive and send text messages after a Google Voice port finishes processing.

    dealexpired

  • The phone supports IP68 water and dust resistance for everyday durability.

    psignal

  • The A37 can be used as a travel or backup device by relying on Wi‑Fi during the long unlock wait.

    gregkurthfo

  • The A37 can be a strong midrange option for emulation use cases.

    NervousApparel7493

  • Metro's unlock timing is reported as 365 days after activation, which reduces spare-phone usefulness.

    juddevkalukola

  • Metro's port-in and checkout process can fail with identity verification or number reservation errors.

    BGRTethanyy

  • The phone is reported to be locked to Metro for the unlock period, limiting use on other carriers.

    AtivaaScottoDono

  • The phone can feel noticeably laggy in daily UI despite decent benchmark results.

How about tello? Can we port to Metro using a tello number or Google voice number? And also if I got a new number from any network how long should I wait to port out to Metro by T-mobile
Tello has been my go-to, but I believe they are a T-Mobile MVNO so might not work. Maybe Infimobile, which has a $5 / mo. plan and can use Verizon. I actually have Infimobile now but have never tried porting out, hoping it's not a nightmare.

I've never used Lyca mobile, but it should work too since it apparently currently uses AT&T network. Oh and I've ported out lots of times from different places, just not Infimobile, not sure if that was clear. It's always possible, but some places make it more difficult.

Anyone know if the phone is unlocked after the required period? The deal looks great, but that's always the first thing I check with carrier phones.

The price looks good but the plans are expensive. The lowest I see is $40 a month making this phone cost 520 for a year of service. You can do better. I see mint is a little more for an a26 or a37.
Ask c/s to put you on their $25. plan. They will push back and say it's for new customers only, but ask for a manager. I have the iPhone 13 on it and it's fine with all taxes/fees inclluded for the $25. Unlimited data up to a certain point.

While these phone are cheap, be ready they are slow, I mean really slow.
Humm, the A37 is not slow. AnTuTu speeds are much better on the A37 vs Moto G Stylus 2025.

Speed is important for gamers. Some apps are super slow because they operate like spywares (+300 MB program download).
Most Motorola phones support bootloader unlock, allowing the user to install the latest version of Android 5 to 6 years down the road. All Samsung phones are preloaded with tons of Samsung custom programs.

My kid has an Apple Watch phone number on his Apple Watch cellular version. He doesn't have a phone. Can u use that Apple Watch number as the port in ?? He's due for a real phone now and I want to stop paying for watch service.

The specs are decent and benchmarks say otherwise, but as I have both, the UI lag is much more noticeable on the A37 than the G Stylus. It's most likely because the A37 has that heavily skinned OneUI versus the G Stylus' cleaner Android skin and slightly more RAM.
