Thanks for this advice. Did everything, new account showed up and the old account went inactive automatically.
Does this mean you can just return the old equipment and you're done? Or would you still need to "cancel" that old account even if inactive?

Same. 16 year customer here, and have been doing the same song and dance every year or two moving to the next promo when the price jumps back up to the 'standard' rate. Was paying $30/mo for "Up to 400 Mbps" (which never got above 200) using my own equipment, then the promo ran out and it jumped to $79.99. The only thing they could - allegedly - offer me this time was 500 Mbps for $85 (including the $10 autopay/paperless discount). So I contacted you because I wasn't happy that my bill jumped from $30 to $80, said I was completely fine with my current speed and didn't want to add any additional services, and you offer me a bill that's $5 MORE than the bill I called about not being happy with? Make it make sense...
It's such an insult to an existing customer that the absolute cheapest option to continue my service is a bump from $50/mo to $70 for the privilege of downgrading from 1gig to 300mbps.

I keep hearing people doing this, but I'm not sure of the exact steps. I can't really afford to go without the Internet even for a day due to my job. How exactly do you go about doing this?
Been doing this since 2008, tell them you moved and have your family member to open a account saying that they are moving in the next day.

Advance cancel and advance purchase.

Thanks for sharing. Even though it's for new customers, if anyone has any luck getting something like this for existing customers, please share any success you have. Also, is adding a mobile line necessary? Or can this deal work for internet only?
I never active anything they give for free. Free phone, media box or wifi extender. I have my own, and don't want the headache to switch back and forth. Buy mes router, make it your default WiFi, connect router, any connected router you don't have to a thing with your Smart home devices.

Xfinity Support on Twitter/X used to be my go to in getting a new promo rate when mine expired, but they are pure trash now. I specifically asked about this promo for new customers with the 5 year locked in price and was told I am "on the best rate right now" (Up to 400Mbps for $79.99/mo).

"I wish I could add the 5 year plan to the account however there is no promotional plan available right now. I can help you to get the 500 Mbps plan with unlimited data which will cost you $85 per month.

I understand that it could be frustrating for not finding the plan you're looking. I have checked that you are already on the best plan and those are introductory offers given to the new customer and these can be availed once only." (Lack of punctuation and poor grammar left in place)

Also worth noting, I became a customer 16 years ago. The promotional plan that just expired for me was one I got a year or two ago and not an "introductory offer given to the new customer", as the rep claims. Just making stuff up at this point.

I'd like to know this as well. If you have two accounts under your Xfinity ID - and one of them is marked as inactive - does that mean the account is truly cancelled?

When I dropped cable TV, I told them that I wanted to continue with internet service. Took their $45 offer. Auto payment, no cell phone service. Have not checked this year to see if anything cheaper meets my few needs. For WiFi phone in the house I use an old Galaxy with TextNow. That works well for me and the Xfinity nodes in the area give me data when I use that phone outside of the house with TN SIM (Verizon network). A better Tracfone is in the car.

This. I did this and switched the account to my wife's name few months ago. Quite easy, you don't need to talk to anyone at Xfinity.
I did it, but they kept charging old account. Had to lodge FCC complaint and eventually got it refunded. Just be aware that xfinity is great as long as you don't talk to anyone. As soon as you actually need help, they are probably worst company on earth.

Open incognito window/private browsing

Go to https://www.xfinity.com/learn/deals/internet

Put in your address, and select "I am moving here as a new customer"

Add the deal into the shopping cart. Go through the equipment/add-on page as you see fit

At the checkout step it will ask you to create an Xfinity ID. You will see "Already have an Xfinity ID? Sign in". Click Sign In and login with your current Xfinity account

Verify the deal is still showing in your cart and complete the checkout process

Once you are done you will see there are TWO account numbers under your Xfinity account

Download the App, login, select the newly created account number and activate the modem (even if you are using your own modem)

Once done, return any equipment if you have under the first account back to Xfinity. And then cancel the first account
Please don't expose this loophole to the masses for internet points 🤬

Switch between family members. I think this is even easier if you have your own modem and router. We will cancel if the agent won't give us the deal. IF the internet turned off before the new account owner (a different family member) is able to sign up for a new plan, do it through your phone's data plan. The steps are simple when the xfinity site isn't glitching its way to death. But the cancellation and new account setup happens within an hour for us. Usually it's quick. The new internet service just starts back up with the same setup, but now your new account owner has billing access and all of that stuff while your old account has no service attached.

So I tried this and after placing the order I got a call from Xfinity stating their can't process my new order because of my existing account. They cancelled it and tell me to call customer care to see if they can get me the same deal on my old account.

The problem with a new account is that you lose potential benefit rewards though. I am currently getting Peacock for free because my account is more than 5 years old. I'll lose that with a new account.
