Do you have to use the Xfinity mobile line?
Not only do you not have to use it, you can't use it in many cases. It only works with a small list of devices, which they do not disclose before purchase.

It's not fiber if it runs over coaxial cable; the fiber only goes into your neighborhood, then is split and wired into the houses from wherever the fiber node is via coaxial cable. Coaxial cable is susceptible to weather and network load issues depending on how many are using it, so it's very likely the upload will never be symmetrical and most likely incredibly slow in comparison to the download speeds. It's a hybrid approach to save them money while still trying to market as it being fiber.
This is the reason I am still with AT&T Gig and paying higher in my area...

"Xfinity internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable" - Meaning slow uploads. Typical cable company deceptive marketing.
Well said. My 300 AT&T, fiber optic is far better and faster than my one gig Xfinity low latency and fast uploads.

You're right on the money. But be aware, even some fiber optic providers, bring fiber up to a main branch and then break it down to coax inside the residence.

The real reason for this price drop is that Xfinity is getting real competition from T-Mobile with their fiber plans.

Use THAT competition to your advantage.

Don't call and say I want the new customer price as a new customer. They have a teleprompter in India script designed specifically to thwart that negotiation method.

Call and say you are going to switch to TMobile because they give you better uploads, better price, pinker corporate color, etc.

They will IMMEDIATELY transfer you over to the retention department who will be ready and authorized to GIVE YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT. This person will NOT be in India and will be smarter and more professional than the average call center drone.

Understand that it costs them nothing to keep you as a loyal customer, so bury the knife to the hilt in them.

I got a two year 1.5 gig download contract, unlimited data PLUS a guaranteed static IP (T-mobile uses godawful CGNAT) which is important because I host servers, reverse proxy, etc., and I can cancel anytime for $65 incl. tax per month.

Use this power wisely SD'ers! Remember you know them nothing but contempt.

No, it's not. Xfinity fiber optic come into the house via coaxial cable, both download and upload speeds are symmetrical.
You literally have no idea what youre saying bro. It is not and it sucks. Im about to go back to Verizon fios real fiber optic. This one is a gimmick.

This is what I've done two years in a row now as an existing customer. Last time I did it was April earlier this year. Assuming it still works, you don't have to talk to anyone, except maybe if you need to exchange or get a new Xfinity gateway in store.
I did the same thing to get down to $60 earlier except I use their free mobile line.

It's quite the rigamarole to port that out and back in though.

I'm on the fence as to whether this is worth my time again.

A terrible company. They are known for arbitrarily inflating bills.

My last two interactions with the company's staff—one when opening the account and the other when closing it—were negative. I was told by the Xfinity staff members at the store that their CEO believes customers are stealing from the company when they use their own modems, gateways, or routers, and I faced a service cap when I try it. When I returned the internet equipment during my last visit to the Xfinity store, the employee followed me outside while hurling insults at me.

The hardware is not bad (they made me pay for my own Wi-Fi, and that was a uphill battle), but the staff and their business model are horrible! By the way, Comcast, AT&T, and Xfinity all share that same terrible philosophy and behavior.

Yes, sorry I didn't take into account the mobile line part, I don't use Xfinity mobile so it was a lot easier for me.
