Cancel current plan and open new account under another household member. Been doing it this way for over a decade. Last I knew they consider each individual a new account holder after 6 months of not being a current customer.

It's not fiber if it runs over coaxial cable; the fiber only goes into your neighborhood, then is split and wired into the houses from wherever the fiber node is via coaxial cable. Coaxial cable is susceptible to weather and network load issues depending on how many are using it, so it's very likely the upload will never be symmetrical and most likely incredibly slow in comparison to the download speeds. It's a hybrid approach to save them money while still trying to market as it being fiber.

Existing customer here (Diamond). I can confirm I was able to get this deal thru Xfinity Chat support. At first they gave me $65/month 1Gbps for 5 years. I didn't budge. Then, they gave me the $50/month 1Gbps for 5 years. Awesome Deal!!!

Got the run around from Xfinity retention dept when I wanted to downgrade to 1Gbps with this offer from my current 2Gbps which is going to double in price next month.

Finally got tired and opened a new account with the same login and ordered 1Gbps for $50/month for 5 years.

New modem was delivered next day and activated right away.
Customer service moved my xfinity mobile line from old to new account without hassle and processed cancellation of old account.
Yet to get a confirmation of cancellation but hoping it will go through.
Seems like an easy way to get this deal.
Best part is they didn't charge any activation fee or shipping fee for the new modem. So overall good deal.

Which modem would you gusy recommend for xifnity, I have my own separate wifi so I am looking for stand alone modem rather than all in one device.

If you're planning on using these higher speed symmetrical plans, like the ones in this deal, there is a pretty short list of self-owned models that support them. I don't have a link to them right now but a Google search brings them up.

I used to be adamant about using my own modem, but since the provided gateway is included in the price, and you get unlimited data with them as a result, I caved and started using the Xfinity provided gateways, but only because you can put them in Bridge mode which turns off all routing and WiFi features. If they ever disable bridge mode, I'd consider going back to my own modem.

I also signed up as a new customer. One thing worth trying if you have discover card, it has now been switched to Capital One. My account shows an offer for $150 cash back for new account sign up. You don't have to use the discover card to pay, I did it with auto pay bank account to get $10 off. Just have to click the link when you sign up. Anyways, I will see if it actually works 40 days later. Popular cash back sites have $100 cashback also if you don't have discover/capital one

I got the router next day and set it up within 5 minutes using the app, great speed. Called to cancel other account but there was already an email stating the other account is in the process of cancelling! Probably didn't even have to call!
