The only complaint I have heard is the paywall they just put up.
It is true they have affiliate links to purchase so that could be a point of contention about bias.
I held up buying this model because an HDMI input was an absolute requirement for me, and couldn't find a review to confirm that it has one. I unboxed it, and I can confirm that it does have an HDMI input port.

The Hisense AX700 is a strong budget 5.1.4 soundbar with wireless subwoofer support, best at turning basic TV speakers into a much fuller home theater setup for under $200. The sound quality is repeatedly described as impressive for the price, setup is easy, and the HDMI input is confirmed. The main knocks are inconsistent dialogue and occasional cutouts, including rear speakers or sub connections briefly dropping out, plus some LG OLED remote quirks and little evidence of firmware support. It looks like a compelling value if you can tolerate a few bugs.
Common Questions (6)
Some units have reported random disconnects, brief muting, rear-speaker cutouts, or full cutouts after a few weeks. In at least one case, resetting and manually resyncing the system helped, and in another, replacing non-Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cables fixed the dropouts.
At around $180, it is repeatedly described as a strong budget upgrade with very good sound for the money. The main caveats mentioned are lackluster bass on some setups and dialogue that may need the volume turned up.
Yes. Reported quirks include rear speakers briefly cutting out, an LG OLED remote button launching Disney+ instead of surround settings, and a volume action showing a large gray box on screen. There are also concerns that firmware updates are not readily available.
The AX700 is positioned as hard to beat at this price, but the Samsung Q990 is described as a clear performance upgrade if you are willing to spend much more. The Q990 is also mentioned as a better choice for stronger sound quality and fewer frustrations.
It is described as easy to set up and configure, and it can be a straightforward upgrade from built-in TV speakers. One practical caveat is that some setups needed HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cables to stop picture or audio dropouts.
Yes. The AX700 includes an HDMI input port, which matters if you want to connect a source directly to the bar instead of relying only on eARC. That was confirmed after unboxing.

But the major reason why I'm returning it is because there is absolutely zero support when it comes to this soundbar. Meaning, no firmware updates for bug fixes. I would have been fine with little glitches here and there if I knew that Hisense was actually working on firmware updates to fix them. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. Again, excellent sound quality for the price. But for me personally, I need a product that is continuously supported by the manufacture and actually releases updates to rectify bugs and glitches. If you can live with the "minor" bugs, I wouldn't hesitate to buy at this price. Just understand that you're pretty much stuck with whatever bugs you have because a firmware update is non-existent.

Turns out, I had an older Amazon Basics HDMI cable going from the Roku box to the TV which was NOT a modern, Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable. Even though the soundbar was not connected with this cable, this entire setup caused annoying picture and sound drop outs constantly. Probably something to do with the cable not supporting high enough bitrate to simultaneously transmit the 4K picture, enhanced audio, and CEC control.
I got some inexpensive premium HDMI 2.1 cables off Amazon (2 for $10, I think the brand is Highwings, but there's lots of good options) and the problem was history. It's worked flawlessly since then.
So for everyone experiencing picture or audio dropout issues, make sure all your HDMI cables from your TV connected devices are are "Ultra High Speed" HDMI 2.1 cables.
