First I got a cheap HVLP - works OK but it's really for small projects like furniture. Very sensitive to paint viscosity. Due to the inherent nature of the technology (using air to siphon paint), it tends to clog frequently.
Then I got a Wagner 130 which is an airless sprayer but it was pretty basic and since there is no way to adjust pressure, you're back to messing with paint viscosity to get correct patterns (tailing was a constant problem regardless of tip, and the whole point to airless is to not have to waste time diluting paint)
Next I'm up to a unit like this and have been looking at the Graco Magnum 2800 [homedepot.com] which I would say is comparable to this deal, though about twice the price and a more reputable brand.
Anyway, in my personal experience I'd say a sprayer isn't nearly as useful a tool as one thinks it would be - smaller HVLP are too impractical for interior use, and airless are better but then you spend a TON of time in prep to eliminate overspray. Maybe if you're spraying a whole house or a few gutted rooms it might make sense otherwise just a brush an roller will be quicker (and most people recommend back rolling sprayers anyway, to be able to get a texture that can be touched up later)
I got a $3,000 quote to paint the house and figured, 'Why not just buy the gear?' I picked up a Graco X7 and 5 gallons of Sherwin-Williams Duration. Gave the house a good pressure wash first, and the sprayer handled that thick paint like a champ. Saved a ton of cash and it looks great.

I got a $3,000 quote to paint the house and figured, 'Why not just buy the gear?' I picked up a Graco X7 and 5 gallons of Sherwin-Williams Duration. Gave the house a good pressure wash first, and the sprayer handled that thick paint like a champ. Saved a ton of cash and it looks great.

I have an x5. Graco parts are easy but pricey to find. The good part of it is that you can switch out to RaC X (blue guard) and uses very high quality tips that work well for interior work. Once I did that and a bit of practice I ended up with the ability to spray doors and trim (off wall) wonderfully.
I'd lean toward spending the extra money on a Graco for the ability to find parts, etc...espcially for interior work, but I imagine the current deal would be great for fences, etc.
