Not sure I see the value in these being $9.50 a piece. How often are you going to be using the energy monitoring function?
I remember buying some smart plugs for 99 cents, are those times over?

The energy monitoring is nice to find out how much electricity devices consume over time.

That said, the newer TP Link Tapo line includes Matter support and sells for $10 less, so these are definitely overpriced.

The earlier Kasa energy monitoring smart plugs (Kasa KP115 and KP125) work with Sense Energy Monitoring, which is installed on my breaker panel. It can automatically identify a lot of devices, but with these specific smart plugs it integrates with them so you can put specific devices or power strips on a plug, and have it individually monitored.

But this Matter compatible version (KP125M) isn't supported by Sense. I've got the maximum number of Kasa energy monitoring plugs for Sense integration in my house already (any more and Sense can't keep track of them) so for additional plugs I've been using Tapo P110M, which are energy monitoring and Matter compatible. They are also cheaper than the Kasa plugs, and more compact. Kasa and Tapo plugs work in the Tapo app natively. Tapo plugs do not work in the Kasa app.

Buy the Tapo ones. Unless you have Sense, and in that case, get the older Kasa ones.

If you pair these Kasa plugs strictly via Matter, the energy monitoring data won't actually show up in Apple Home or Home Assistant. You have to use the Kasa app or link your TP-Link cloud account to HA to get the power stats, which defeats the purpose of local-only Matter control. Since Tapo plugs are cheaper and work in the same app now, there's not much reason to pay extra for the Kasa branding.
