Kasa HS200 smart switches are a solid Wi Fi option for adding app control to lights, with a reputation for reliable long term use and a brand name that feels safer than off brand gear. They work fine in normal faceplates, and a handful or even dozens can run without trouble when the router or a separate smart home network can handle the load. The main caveat is that they depend on Wi Fi and need the right wiring, especially a neutral wire for some installs and more planning for three way setups. A practical pick for homes that already have compatible wiring and decent network coverage.
Common Questions (4)
Yes. Several dozen Kasa Wi‑Fi switches have been used without problems, and a handful is generally fine if the router can handle the device count. A separate smart-home Wi‑Fi network can also help keep things stable.
Kasa is described as a solid, reputable brand with devices that have worked reliably for years. The main practical concern is that smart-home products can become unsupported if a manufacturer disappears, so sticking with an established brand matters.
Yes. The HS200 works with normal faceplates, and in a 2-gang fan/light box you can replace the fan switch if there is a neutral wire in that box. A 2-gang 1-toggle wall plate may be needed.
Yes, the installation needs a neutral wire in the box where the smart switch is installed. Older 3-way or dead-end wiring without a neutral in that box can make installation difficult or impossible without rewiring.

The thing with smart devices is that is one area you want a solid name - too many of my off-brand smart devices went out of business and/or no longer support them. Kasa is a reputable brand vs. Tapo.

This replaces the "line side" 3 way switch in your 3 way switch setup - the existing dumb "load side" switch can remain in place.
If you have more than one 3 way switch setup in your house, this 2 pack is actually a better deal, 2 switches @ $25.26, so $12.63 per switch. Note that while TP-Link implies this is a "kit" that replaces each switch in a 3 way setup, each switch in this 2 pack can handle a 3 way setup, where the remaining dumb "load side" switch can remain in place.

Note in all cases that you'll need a neutral wire on the same circuit in the box containing the "line side" switch. Some older homes may be wired as "dead end" 3 ways in both switch locations, where no neutral is avaiable in either 3 way switch location, in which case you're out of luck unless you want to rewire the 3 way setup, which is not a trivial task in finished walls.
They also have a 3 way dimmer kit, which DOES require replacing both switches in the 3 way setup, but again requires a neutral in the "line side" switch box:

Ignore people that say you can only have ten on WiFi, they have zero understanding of WiFi/zwave/zigbee.
