sure, buy it if you love Forced ADS, and to be spammed with Amazon crap. i do have 3 show 8's and a number of show 5's.
i used to love them, a number of years ago, lots of us did, than Bezo's stepped down as CE0, the new management sucks. look at 1 star reviews , amazon is trying to hide bad reviews ...
i boxed up all my show devices, i still use the echo dot's .
i personally would not recommend the show devices , until they remove forced ADS which they will not do, it brings in companies to spend money to spam your device.

p.s. one last thing, on prime days these show devices were very cheap to buy in combo type deals, ... i would pick them up for 20 dollars with light bulb or some other thing thrown in. Those days are long gone. prime days suck compared to when Bezo's was running the company.

I know this deal is about the 8 but don't buy the 5. That thing is so slow. You can count the seconds go by before you get a response after you say her name.

Echo Show's are pretty useless. I have a couple of them and all they do is show ads. I prefer the audio-only devices.

We have an 11 in the kitchen for watching videos/prime video while cooking dinner, cleaning, etc - works fine (yes, has ads but "duh".) I'm curious, what was your expectation of buying a Show if not for viewing video content (Prime video, YT, eyc) for which it works just fine for (excluding the dog-with-fleas Echo 5 Wink ).

Do not throw it away - you can usually get a discount on trade (for a new device obviously.) But, most importantly, these things will eventually be jail-broken and you can load custom firmware to work with your private AI or other opensource home automation stuff. That is if you're into tinkering with your devices (if not - trash it/trade it)

Fair question. One thing I wanted was to be able to view anyone at the front door via the smart doorbell and security cameras, but that integration never really worked well. As for watching video, the Show doesn't have many of apps you get on a smart TV or Roku, so it's very limited in what you can watch. And I stopped watching Prime once they added ads to the standard subscription.
