Travelpro Platinum Elite Hardside 21 inch is a polished carry on with a strong price for the brand, especially for travelers who want a hard shell option with a laptop pocket. The bag is also described as a legacy Platinum model, and registration with proof of purchase is needed to pursue warranty coverage. The main cautions are size and durability concerns, since the 21 inch can be too large for strict international or European budget airline limits, and multiple arrivals were reported cracked near the top corners despite intact shipping boxes. A solid fit if the size works and you inspect it closely on arrival.

Common Questions (5)

  • Warranty coverage is disputed: some say Woot purchases are not honored, while others were told coverage depends on registering the bag and uploading proof of purchase. Travelpro's Trusted Companion Promise can add airline-damage and shipping coverage for the first five years if you register within 120 days, but some comments say Woot-sold units are legacy models with no active lifetime guarantee.

  • Yes. Multiple bags arrived cracked near the top corners even when the shipping box looked fine, so it's worth checking all sides immediately and returning it to Woot if damaged.

  • Yes for many international and strict European budget-airline limits: the 21" is described as probably too large and may need to be checked. The 20" version is the one mentioned as fitting better on stricter European carriers.

  • Yes, registration was reportedly possible, and proof of purchase is required. Registration does not guarantee a claim will be approved, but it is the first step for any warranty request.

  • Yes, one reported warranty call said a retired Platinum Magna 2 could be replaced with a current equivalent model such as Platinum Elite, with the option to choose from available sizes. That only applies if the claim is accepted under the warranty terms.

I prefer the soft side on the Platinum series, but this is a pretty decent deal, at least for the gray one. I would also add that per some commenters on the last TravelPro woot sale, many said that TravelPro will not honor any warranty on luggage that comes from woot (not sure how they would prove it though).

Yes, you have to upload proof of purchase. There's an option to select "received as gift" as well... but I don't know what all the details are.

From what I can tell, these versions that Woot sells are "old" models, a "legacy Platinum collection". You can see slight differences in design if you look at the one on Travelpro's website. Their AI chatbot tells me you won't get an active Travelpro warranty if you buy this (no lifetime guarantee thing).

These are too big for international carry on.

Woot also has the 20" version, which some folks say works fine on European budget airlines that are strict about carry-on sizes. The 21" is probably too big and you might have to check it.

Learn from my mistake: do not leave the baggage claim area until you check your suitcase for damage. The airlines will pay for your bags they broke (the wheels on these are week points) But once you walk outside, they wont honor it.
