I love mine, but I got it last fall for about $650. I wouldn't pay these prices for it.

Thank God I looked at the comments, because I initially thought it was time to pull the trigger. I would rather wait years until SSD/gpu prices aren't hiked.

Agreed. I bought the ROG Ally (non-X, non XBox) with the Z1 Extreme in 2023 for $450 new from Best Buy, and I upgraded the M.2 NVMe to a WD Black SN850X 2TB drive. It still meets my needs.
On this Lenovo Legion Go S, there would be 4 main upgrades:
1) 8" screen (vs 7" on Ally, same FHD 120hz IPS touch)
2) Controller has hall effect joysticks and triggers, and the triggers have switches that can switch between analog and digital
3) Bigger battery (I always play plugged in, so moot to me)
4) 32GB RAM at 7500MT/s (vs 16GB at 6400MT/s on Ally) [Added via comment edit]
I previously returned an open box unit Go S from Best Buy for $650 around October 2025 because I couldn't justify the cost for the feature set upgrade, so I certainly am not interested at $990. Maybe when prices drop in the future the Intel G3 Extreme units will be worthwhile.

I remember when these were going for $400 open box at BB. I should have brought one then. I wouldn't pay these prices for one. I hope this market crashes. Insane price now.

Brother you'll be waiting for a while, but I'm on the same boat. Lol

I wouldn't pay this price, but I have one of these and I can confirm they are pretty cool.

Don't forget double the RAM. (32gb vs 16gb) 😉

Even the Ally X only has 24gb of RAM.

Excellent point, thank you. Yes, I overlooked that while making my list. I edited my original comment to add it as item number 4.

The ones that got as low as $400 at BB had a lower end Z2 Go APU with 4 cores and worse iGPU. I never saw the Z1 Extreme go for less than $550 in the worst condition of "fair" at my local BB, and the "excellent" condition ones were around $650.

Is there any steam game that will take advantage of the 32gb on a handheld? Seems like the z1e is the limiting factor. Dedicating more than 8gb of vram won't really do anything for an apu and steam OS doesn't need that much ram.

Probably games with lots of mods applied, like Skyrim, Minecraft, and I'm sure there are newer ones with mods that can consume lots of RAM / VRAM when stacked.
The larger RAM also increases the ability for one to dock the handheld and use it for non-gaming workloads like virtualization or video editing.

I got one with a Z1E chip for $400 something after Paypal promotion. It was open box in excellent condition. Gladly i bought it.
