Is the quality on Thai better than Acer Helios? I've only owned the Acer for 15 months and the W key already broke off.

Acer is well known to be questionable build quality as they usually target lower budgets. HP has a broader range and I'd say this device is in the middle (not as bad as the average Acer but not as good as Lenovo/Asus).

Personally I'm more concerned in a $1.2k+ device with 512GB SSD + 16GB RAM. Upgrading those to 1TB/32GB alone would be ~$600 and you can find better deals in that case. If you are fine with the 512/16, this one is ok mostly due to the newer processor

good price, no? but yes the upgrades will be ridiculously expensive

Probably has a second SSD slot so that at least won't be hard to upgrade. Also depends on how the ram is setup, a LOT of the HPs and Lenovos last year with 16 GBs were a single stick with an open slot so the upgrade was only "buy 1 16 GB stick" not 2.

That could cut the upgrade cost in half.

It's an ok deal. I wouldn't bite unless I was really in a rush for a mid-tier gaming laptop right now knowing I'd have to add a few 100'sin the near future (especially the 512GB SSD is nothing considering modern games are 150GB+ each)

Interesting, I thought dual-channel was the default for anything in 2026. One of the review on BB seems to confirm it's a 1x16GB with a free slot so assuming that's the case, it would save $200 on my original $600 estimate making it more interesting.

You probably saw this with desktop graphics cards mixed in. 5060 laptop vs 4070 laptop are pretty comparable on raw raster but the 5060 has more modern frame gen tech and the like. Also better power use, both have 8 gigs of ram etc.

Yeah weird right? It's because DDR5 has LESS of a penalty from shipping with single channel memory compared to DDR4. Still a penalty, but noticeably less of one. And makes the upgrade path/cost a lot cleaner.

Assuming it has a second SSD slot, then yeah should be able to get the ram for around 200 and then if the SSD is more of an "eventual" upgrade you can wait for a deal here and likely get a 1 TB SSD for around 140-150.
