**Lenovo Idea Tab Plus 12.1" (2024) – $209.99 at Best Buy (Reg. $339.99)**

12.1" 2.5K 90Hz display, 8GB RAM, 128GB UFS storage, MediaTek Helio G99, microSD expansion, quad JBL speakers with Dolby Atmos, and Android. Great value if you're looking for a large media tablet or smart home hub. $130 off.

I'd been looking for an Android tablet with at least 8GB of RAM to play with some smart home projects so I picked this up today. Deal seems fairly decent as I didn't see that this dropped in price all too often.

Garbage low-end SoC from 2018. This is going to lag doing almost anything.

Nothing! You'd be hard pressed to find something with similar specs and performance at this price. People are quick to call things "garbage" without considering value for the price.

The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 is generally better than the MediaTek Helio G99 due to its 5G connectivity support, higher clock speeds, and better overall benchmark scores. This is junk!

The chipset being 5g capable doesn't mean the device you buy is even using a sim for data. The majority of tablets are wifi only so 5g support is a moot point. And how much faster is it in benchmarks? Why do I ask? Because for the most part I think people put more importance than they should on synthetic benchmark scores. I mean is a 25% faster CPU really that big of a difference? 25% faster sounds pretty impressive on paper but what does it mean in the real world? It means an app that typically took 2 seconds to open will now only take 1.5 seconds. That's approximately what a 25% faster CPU gets you. Big deal. People are always trying to keep up with the Joneses when it's really not necessary. These companies are really good at making you think you need the latest and the greatest. Apple almost has it down to an art.

The A76 core is from 2018, low end chip makers are still throwing them in new SoCs even this year. The worst part is that there is only 2 of them in this e-waste tablet.

A lot of things are better. That still doesn't mean this isn't good for the typical tablet user.
