Last I heard, SIM swap is still working for ATT. The steps are posted in the wiki but here they are for app viewing etc. Couple of things to note, when you order the phone with ATT a new line is created during the process and there will be an wireless agreement during the process. Make sure to save that document as it has the number given to you, this will come in handy if the phone is lost in transit etc.

Your 3 day window to perform SIM swap and cancel the line to get activation fee refunded starts from the time of line creation. Also, after paying it off you can chat and ask for the phone to be unlocked to see if they unlock it for you before trying the SIM swap.
  • After getting the phone and paying it off fully, make some calls/texts and make sure it shows up on ATT account
  • You will need to wait 24 hours or the next day for the unlock portal to sync the pay off information.
  • Transfer the eSIM to an unlocked (or ATT locked) iphone or android. For iphone to iphone you can use iOS transfer eSIM method. For iphone to android, you can first to see if you can generate a QR code for eSIM and then use it on android for transfer. If that fails follow the instructions here https://www.att.com/support/artic...ce=4485850. The important thing here is to make sure you are not provisioning a new eSIM instead you are moving the same eSIM to the other phone.
  • Make some calls with that phone and make sure it shows up on the account now.
  • Now go to ATT.com/device unlock and select non ATT customer and provide imei.
  • Make sure you reply yes to the confirmation email ATT sends
  • Only cancel the account after you are able to unlock.

Some other things to note

ATT will send you a bill with the full amount even after you cancel your account so you have to do couple of things to get rid of charges.
  1. When you open the bill in myATT app/att website there will be something called "Don't recognize this fee" under the activation. You can click on it to get rid of a activation fee. This is an instant and automatic credit. Also this works even if you cancelled the account after 3 days.
  2. Chat with CS to get rid of rest of the charges. Make sure to not fall for credit in the next bill/adjusted in the next bill, Be polite but persistent that you want charges to be credited now. Bring up the policy if you have to.

This iPhone 15 AT&T deal is mainly attractive for the low upfront price and the possibility of unlocking it after payoff. The comments focus on a SIM swap path that can move the eSIM to another phone, then unlock the device after waiting for AT&T to sync the payoff, sometimes within minutes. The main cautions are that AT&T creates a new line during checkout, the cancellation window starts immediately, and billing can require follow up to remove activation and other charges. The phone is eSIM only in the United States, so the transfer steps matter. A workable option if you are comfortable managing the carrier process.

Common Questions (5)

  • After payoff, it can help to wait about 24 hours or until the next day for AT&T's unlock portal to sync. Once the phone shows on the account and the SIM has been transferred, the unlock request can go through quickly.

  • AT&T's official unlock policy is 60 days active, but the SIM swap method can bypass that requirement. The phone still needs to be paid off and show working service before requesting unlock.

  • The 3-day window to cancel the new line starts when the line is created, and the activation fee can be removed through the "Don't recognize this fee" option in the bill. Any remaining charges may need to be credited by chat support after cancellation.

  • Yes. If the online unlock process stalls or returns an error, AT&T customer service can sometimes complete the unlock manually.

  • No. The last US iPhone with a physical SIM slot was the iPhone 13, so the iPhone 15 uses eSIM.

Hello - I am getting error message (you can't unlock until..) when requesting unlock - received phone 8/12 afternoon - paid off - let it sit connected to Cell Tower (showing up on ATT Account) until 8/13 - on 8/13 swapped sim - made sure the new phone showed up on ATT Account - requested Unlock - and got the message (you can't unlock until..) Even today on 8/14 - still getting the same message - and now I requested too many times for 1 IMEI. If anyone had similar issue and/or has any suggestions - I would appreciate🙏
I was able to replicate - ordered 8/11 , delivered 8/14 - activated and paid off same day . Next day 8/15 did SIM transfer ,once confirmed sim working on other phone . Waited few hours requested unlock , unlocked in few minutes !

You need 2 months of service to unlock the phone. The sim swap bypasses that.

Read other deals that have the sim swap. Ive linked one at the bottom of the deal.
Do both phones have to be through AT & T to do that. I have an Iphone 11 that has been unlocked and is being used on Cricket on a group save plan and wondering if its possible to do this?

60 days active is the official unlock policy. The sim swap bypasses that.

I am trying to get this deal but having trouble creating an AT&T account. I get an error saying "We weren't able to process your application
We weren't able to approve your application. To learn more, call AT&T at 8003310500"
Ever get this figured out?

What is the proper way to do this within 3 days of line creation when gettin it shipped? Mine took a week to arrive and from reading the comments I thought 3 days started from activation instead. Was I suppose to pay for faster shipping and do everything within 3 days or should I have gotten it at the store instead? Is there any way to remove line charges at this point?

What amounts are they trying to charge you? What steps did you already complete?

Did you just happen to find one in-store or is there a way to find store with stock online?
