20" is the carry on version, I own a variant of the 24" - it is definitely too large to use as a carry on bag.

I don't think that's what this is. If it's like the hundreds of suitcases I saw being sold in Japan when I was there, it still splits in the middle like any clamshell hard luggage. It also allows you to access one of the half compartment from the laptop compartment.
Anyone who owns this hopefully can clarify if I am right.

Yes I own a variant of the 24" model - (The front is smooth as opposed to ones listed above which is ribbed but every else is the same). I don't regret the purchase but should have bought a 26" model as it holds 91 liters whereas the 24" holds 70 liters (Good for a week of travel for me but no longer without needing to do laundry). In my opinion the vertical opening with the laptop holder is inferior to a horizontal opening and is a gimmick (bad idea to put an expensive laptop in checked luggage, if the airlines lose it they are not obliged to compensate you). I got Mixi 24 for roughly $70 on black Friday (including all the discount codes and cash back) the vertical opening model was $25 cheaper than the one with the horizontal opening, so It's a minor issue. Have used it approximately 7 times, so far no problems. The wide handle does create a flat surface for packing so that's a plus, the minus is that you can't easily slip a carry on / personal item back pack / bag over the handle when transiting through an airport. Less of an issue for the checked luggage (24") than the carry on (20"). The handle has little wobble and the construction of the bag is very robust for the money. Wheels are smooth as is the zipper. I'll go get the measurements and post them in a reply.

Measurements for my 24 inch Mixi suitcase with a wide handle - 11" Deep - 16.5" wide - 26.5" tall (Includes wheels / handles) = 54 linear inches. Weight 11.75 pounds. Aluminum frame with a poly carbonate shell.

My 24" luggage weighs 11.75 lbs and is definitely thicker than Samsonite, TravelPro, and Solgaard hard shell luggage I have checked out. However if you go to Alibaba (The wholesaler as opposed to the retail "Aliexpress"). You'll see numerous merchants selling bags labeled as "Mixi". Brand/Copyright enforcement is weak in China.

Those are the measurements without wheels and handles.
Exterior dimensions on my Mixi 24" luggage are 11" x 16.5" x 26.5" (54 linear inches). 28 cm x 42 cm x 67.5 cm (137 linear cm).

Regardless of the quality of these suitcases, I'm a little concern about the weight especially the 20inch one. 4.2kg is more than half of many allowed carry-on luggage weight of 7kg.

his type of suitcase has actually been sold in China for about three or four years, so it's nice to finally see it make its way to the U.S. market.
Overall, the design is really well thought out. The only real downside is that you can no longer slide a backpack over the suitcase handle. It's also a little disappointing that some versions sold in China have a fold-out cup holder on the back, which is super convenient for holding your coffee while you're waiting at the airport.

To be fair, most sturdy 20-inch carry-on suitcases already weigh around 4 kg on their own. If an airline strictly enforces a 7 kg carry-on weight limit, that really doesn't leave you much room for anything inside. At that point, a backpack is almost the only practical option.

yea i just received the 20inch model and its nothing like you described.
The shell is very hard. opens all from the top, not split in the middle. large pockets enough for a 17 inch laptop easily. Overall one of the best carrys on i have used so far.
