No — the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (the one you're viewing) still runs Fire OS (Android-based) and supports sideloading. According to current reports, it's one of the last Fire TV sticks to support this feature.
Vega OS is Amazon's new Linux-based operating system that replaces Android-based Fire OS on newer Fire TV devices. It launched in 2025 on the Fire TV Stick 4K Select.
Key things to know:
No sideloading — apps can only be installed from Amazon's Appstore (no APK sideloading)
More memory-efficient — runs smoothly even on 1GB RAM devices
Rebuilt UI — redesigned home screen with a dedicated Discover tab and reduced ad clutter
Deeper Alexa+ integration for smarter content discovery
