brother is a good brand. while these seem to take after the EcoTank type models from other brands. These don't actually seem to be the refillable reservoir from the bottles. you're looking at $100+ for new set of cartridgesn.

as with all inkjets, if you aren't printing a few times a week you will be spending a lot of ink on 'maintenance' cycles or could encounter clogging if you go long without printing.

Are smart tank printers good if I only need to print like once in 2 weeks?

SeriousMeat182 is right.
Personally, I recommend a laser printer for any volume of printing. With my previous habits of printing a few pages every 2-3 months on an inkjet, I used orders if magnitude more ink on "maintenance cycles" compared to what actually ended up on the page. I tossed the printer because the heads clogged.

Or $30 for a compatible set of HIGH YIELD ink tanks on Amazon (highly rated):

You don't say which inkjet you had (and tossed) but in my experience, inkjets and laser printers both have their pros and cons. Laser printers, of course, are not prone to clogging, but they are expensive to get a good one. Cheap color laser printers have tiny "starter" toner cartridges and are usually chip-locked to make you buy the expensive manufacturers toner and they print very few pages per cartridge then you have to buy more. Ink-tank style inkjets have no such "lock" and you can buy cheap compatible ink bottles. Most tank style printers come with years of ink IN THE BOX (and if you buy from Costco they come with extra ink in the box). If you want to print photos, toner on paper looks like crap compared to an inkjet on photo paper. I personally don't have much a problem with clogged nozzles on either my HP X576dw Officejet or my Canon PRO-100 color photo printer. I use the Canon maybe twice a year and it NEVER clogs. Hard to believe but true.

So, decide what it is you want to print, how much printing you do, and how much you want to spend up front and in the case of laser printers, how much are EACH of the 4 color toner cartridges (which, like I said, are usually chip-locked to make you buy the brand name toner).

It's also not hard to just print one test page a week to keep your inkjet free from clogs. Tank inkjets are, by far, the least expensive way to go for the home or home office user IMO.
