I'm sure those are crazy expensive, but you would think that at least 10G would be commonly accessible to consumers by now.
Regarding the product: You don't have to upgrade your whole network. You can just plug your 2.5G devices into this switch, and they will talk to each other at 2.5G, and the rest of your network at 1G (or whatever the rest of your network is). So you can use this without upgrading your router or other switches.

However, 10G SFP+ connections - fiber-optic 10G? It uses 0.1 to 1.5W per port when using fiber or DAC (the SFP+->RJ45 converters use up to 3W, which gets really hot and can burn ports out if there isn't enough active cooling, if you use them, ideally use the long range ones on short runs). It doesn't have to do as much processing as 10G RJ45 does, so it's much more efficient and the gear is often much cheaper. But home users don't do well with fiber and DAC cables top out at limited run lengths, so it's not widely adopted by home users.
