This Milwaukee M12 Fuel kit stands out as a compact, lightweight circular saw bundle with strong battery value. The included M12 batteries and charger are treated as a big part of the appeal, and the saw itself is praised for easy handling, tight-space cuts, quick around-the-house jobs, and small demo work. It also works well for light tasks like flooring, scabs, and backing boards. The main drawback is cutting power, since thicker 2x lumber, 3 4 plywood rips, and angled or deeper cuts can bog it down. A good fit if you want portability more than full-size saw muscle.

Common Questions (4)

  • It can handle light, straight cuts and quick plywood or 2x cuts, but it bogs down on thicker material and 3/4" plywood rips can be miserable. It is better suited to small tasks, scabs, backing boards, and tight-area cuts than as a primary saw for heavy framing work.

  • Yes. Its lightweight, compact body and closer handle placement make it easy to hold and maneuver, especially for hardwood flooring, quick around-the-house cuts, small demo work, and tight areas where a larger saw is awkward.

  • The M12 XC 5.0 Ah batteries and charger are a big part of the value, with the batteries alone often treated as easy resale items around $100. That makes the kit attractive even if you already own a better saw, since the effective cost can drop sharply after selling the saw or batteries.

  • That compatibility line appears to be a copy-and-paste error. This kit is an M12 tool package, so the M18 battery wording does not match the product being sold.

I have this saw and used it to install hardwood flooring, where its lightweight and smaller footprint were beneficial. It handled cutting the flooring okay. For more general use, the saw is underwhelming compared to a 6 1/2" or 7 1/4" 18v saw and struggles with cuts that the larger saws handle easily.

The 5 3/8" saw has its use cases and I like grabbing it for small tasks, but I would be disappointed using it as my only saw. The Daily Deal also has a 6 1/2 M18 Fuel saw with (1) 5AH battery for $199. That would be a better all around saw, although only (1) battery and no charger.

They also have the 6 1/2 M18 Saw Only for $229 with a free impact drill, so if you can pull off the hack and return the drill, the saw would be $130.
Would this one be enough for 2x4's and plywood? What use cases for the larger models?

I get this is a good deal but what are you cutting with this saw. 2x material is terrible. 1/2 seems fine. Even LP smart siding is tough with this saw. I love my m12 tools but i never reach for this over my m18 circ saw. So far this is my only regretful m12 purchase. The batteries however, those are good batteries. Buy this, sell the saw, keep the batteries.

Your experience reflects mine. I used one of these saws while working in new construction. It was kinda frustrating how easily it bogged down just cutting a 2x4. This was doing electrical work so it was really only used for cutting scabs and backing boards. It's definitely better than trying to karate chop boards.

No. You will hate this saw if you're cutting 2x material and a 3/4 ply wood rip will be miserable.

I got this tool only for $100 last year and it's one of my favorite tools. I have the 7-1/4 and track saw for big jobs but for some quick plywood cuts or 2x this is great. Also for anything that's OSHA questionable... It's also nice for small demo jobs because it's so light and small. If you don't already have HO batteries this is a killer deal.

It's perfect for that. Just use good form so as to cut straight and not bind the blade in the kerf or you'll find yourself complaining that it's not powerful enough. Larger models make deeper cuts, angled cuts in thicker stuff, and have more power to get through harder materials quicker.

Had almost pulled the trigger at $179 for tool only because I really needed this, but was procrastinating. $10 more for two batteries. Good deal!
