My wife bought this at Costco to replace a finicky Canon. It works fine, but unknown to us: This unit does not have a paper cassette. The paper loads into the back of the unit with a fold-out panel.

Costco currently sells the 2988, which doesn't even have the sheet feeder on top. Yes, the paper being fed only from the back is a pain.

It's actually a feature. This one is more of a j-path so it can handle 800gsm paper. The PT700 with front load is, a bit better, able to handle 1000gsm paper stock. For an office printer just get a laser printer, unless you've got a real need for high resolution photo-quality printing.

I have this printer and one big thing to note is that you must either frequently use it or set it up for ideally weekly test prints to keep the print nozzles from drying out and clogging up from disuse. If you go a long time not using it, the print nozzles can dry out and then it will take many clean nozzle and potentially deep clean nozzle cycles to get it working properly again.

Additionally every time you run a clean nozzle or deep clean nozzle cycle fills up a maintenance tank in the unit from the excess ink from cleaning, and eventually you will have to replace that tank once it's full. I have rarely done deep clean cycle because of how much ink it uses. Even regular clean nozzle cycle uses ink.

That being said once the unit is running smoothly the prints come out vivid and sharp and it is pretty fast at printing. I also like how the ink is easily refillable and can use 3rd party ink.

Not about this model, but I have the older ET-3760 with a paper tray and it's the best printer I've ever owned. It saved a ton in ink cost over my old Canon ink gulping printer and held up to thousands of pages printed with my kids in high school and now in college. It won't stop working, except when I had to replace the maintenance box. ( holds old ink from printer head cleaning and cost $10.99 from Epson) Great printers!

I was wondering where they were going to nail you for on-going "subscription fees" to use their printer; it's in the maintenance box! At least that's a fraction of the co$t of constantly replacing individual color ink carts; for that, they only jack up the price $100 over what it should be for a new unit (but admittedly, a big chunk of that added co$t is going to be due to the lingering f/x of Bidenflation...)

I've bought this model earlier this year to print MTG Proxies for casual play, testing with multiple GSM glossy and matte photo paper. The print detail and quality so far is amazing.
I did had some issues initially printing from PC to the Printer, but I think the issue was that I needed to connect my PC to the same Wifi network as the printer.

I have set up a Windows task scheduler event that prints off a multicolored flush page, and then I have disabled that, and I have set up a chron task within my unraid server to do the same thing, now that this is being talked about though, now that I'm talking about it, I remember that I haven't had that computer running in a couple of weeks and I need to hurry up and print a flush page.

Can you teach me what to do to print good proxies? The deck I want to build will cost like $200 to upgrade, and then I play tested it on xmage and I can't win. So I don't really want to spend the money.

Yes, the maintenance box is dirt cheap and good to buy it before you need it. I have only needed to replace it once in 6 years. My printer made me an Epson fan.

I've been printing proxies on Koala 42lb - 160gsm Double Sided Photo Paper and then hot laminating them on both sides (laminate pouch) with 3mm glossy/matte Laminate.
When double sleeved, I find them to be pretty close to double sleeve MTG cards - difficult to tell and similar thickness.

Cutting the cards accurately would be an additional cost - you could try cutting them with a cheap paper cutter and then using a rounded corner cutter but its a lot of work getting it lined up.
I bought a dedicated Card Cutter from Alibaba then bought a second hand Silhouette - both yields pretty great results but both costs quite a bit.

If its a one time thing, you could try buying proxies, but I haven't tried this
