FWIW this spent most of 2025 in the $200s before jumping in March 2026 to $550-600 and hovering there for the last 5 months, according to CCC.

Some people with prime reporting they got their package already and it was mislabeled makeup. Record your openings for your sake if you ordered.

Had to pull the trigger. Never spent this much on an SSD in my life, but gotta stock up when you can. Back to School has this tax free in Florida, too.

The 4TB 990 EVO Plus stands out as a very fast, cool running NVMe for big storage upgrades, gaming, and everyday use. It is described as a strong fit for thin laptops and external enclosures, and HMB based performance is said to be close to DRAM drives for normal workloads while using less power and heat. The main caveat is that it lacks onboard DRAM, so sustained writes and PS5 use may not be ideal. The deal price also drew attention because 4TB SSD pricing has been far higher lately, making this feel like a rare capacity play.

  • The SSD has been verified as authentic after arrival using Samsung Magician and other Linux-based checks.

    mikemccomasBillyMumphry5HTlingula

  • The 990 EVO Plus runs cool enough for ultra-thin laptop builds without needing extra cooling for everyday use.

    ThirstyCruzPonder

  • The 4TB capacity can enable an 8TB LVM setup when paired with another drive, avoiding much higher 8TB NVMe pricing.

    VannitaVannita

  • The drive can support HMB caching, which can reduce power use and heat compared with DRAM-based NVMe options.

    Vannita

  • Counterfeit risk remains a concern because some orders have reportedly arrived as mislabeled makeup kits instead of the SSD.

    1gokartLivewire44ScoreSaysHePointToPasser

  • The PS5 OS does not support HMB natively, so the 990 EVO Plus may deliver worse load-time performance than DRAM-cache drives.

    VannitaVannitaVannita

  • Some buyers report receiving empty Samsung boxes or needing an Amazon investigation, which can delay getting the correct replacement.

    jimboman78ScoreSaysHe

  • The EVO Plus line lacks DRAM cache, which can slow performance as the drive fills up and makes it less ideal as a boot drive.

There is no proof.. this is my own analysis based on market fluctuations in addition to historical price behavior. For an example look at how lumber, cocoa, or any metals have behaved. They don't just have a small price relief after these surges, they collapse
Computer chips have a completely different demand type and curve than any of those product types.

I would need to see proof on this claim. According to IT news, AI is not slowing down any time soon.

These prices are not dropping any time soon.

Besides this is dead now anyway.
South Korea's stock market just had it's biggest crash ever last week, over increased competition from cheaper Chinese AI models and fears higher interest rates will dry up the funding that fueled the AI boom this year.

It was $200 somewhere just a bit before prices went nuts. And that wasn't a price that sold out in a few minutes. It was that price for at least a day. I know because I thought about it multiple times but didn't buy one 🫠.

Very solid deal territory that people actually had a reasonable shot at taking advantage of was ~$250 for one performance tier up (4TB SN850X / 990 Pro). Very solid deals for this tier without DRAM were between $200-$225. That was the state of things for a year or two.
I must've missed that! I was in the market. but at $200 that would've been my sweetspot for 4tb. urgh.

From what I read, memory prices (including M.2 storage) will not be dropping till late 2027/ early 2028 from the demand and backlog on AI requests. As these companies make more money off AI servers, than consumer, they sell more there first.

The truth is, I hope your right, I ordered one of these, because I NEED it right now, I could use another one but, they are gone now, nor do I need the other one that bad.

I work in IT, and study this stuff, and everything I have read shows nothing any time soon.

Not sure on this, I remember shopping for a 2tb Nvme drive before madness....and 2tb was around $180-260 range. 4tb was around $300-400, that insane 8tb was $700. it's why this was such a good deal

Doesn't matter -- the price behavior in markets is universal. Maybe my timing is off and it's a bit longer than now but prices will absolutely get crushed. I feel it's soon though

That may be true, but the South Korean Composite index is only down to its April levels. KOSPI has doubled in the last year, and this "correction" means its only up 50% this year.

Not yet. They have committed contracts with the hyperscalers and AI companies for a couple years even if things start to falter. Plus OpenAI and Anthropic will have their IPOs which will probably be close to $1T of money from investors regardless if the investors lose all their money.
Pretty sure most of those contracts don't require up front money. If they walk away, memory companies can do what? That's the whole rub. AI companies are just being used by the memory cartels to extort ridiculous terms from everyone else. AI companies get all the blame, but this is a deliberate scheme from the cartel. They deliberately have two sets of rules to create artificial demand and wreck the pricing.

It wiped out over 2T in valuation over 40 days. The bubble was created by retail investors jumping on the AI bandwagon, mostly through leveraged ETF's which compounded the correction once stocks stared dropping and margin calls started.

This drive doesn't have a DRAM cache which means it will slow down as it fills up and this also makes it not ideal as a boot drive.
