Had to pull the trigger. Never spent this much on an SSD in my life, but gotta stock up when you can. Back to School has this tax free in Florida, too.
The EVO Plus uses a HMB cache, which the PS5 OS doesn't support. Whie the drive should work in a PS5, would get much better performance using a DRAM cache drive like the 990 Pro.

Do PS5 consoles support Host Memory Buffer?
No. Some M.2 SSD devices may support Host Memory Buffer (HMB) but they may experience slower-than-expected performance because the PS5 console does not support HMB.

I did see that, but didn't see anyone reporting issues with it? I have a 980 pro (2tb) now and was wanting to upgrade it.
While it's not fully supported, have any games reported having issues on the PS5 with it?
The AI spend slowdown that's coming is going to kill these prices. A few weeks? No check back 6 months from now
It'll be a while. Likely more than a year. Most of the AI deals are just commitments. There's still a huge backlog on those contracts waiting for hardware to arrive. Micron has a new fab coming online early in 27, but remember they (the Crucial brand) exited the consumer market entirely (as did Sony) so this new Micron fab won't help with consumer prices at all. No company would dedicate new capacity to consumer DRAM for the foreseeable future with so much money still to be made in enterprise hardware.

980 Pro uses a DRAM cache, so for use in a PS5, the 990 EVO Plus would be a downgrade in terms of performance since the PS5 doesn't support the HMB cache the drive uses.
"The reason why RAM has become four times more expensive is that a huge amount of RAM that has not yet been produced was purchased with non-existent money to be installed in GPUs that also have not yet been produced, in order to place them in data centers that have not yet been built, powered by infrastructure that may never appear, to satisfy demand that does not actually exist and to obtain profit that is mathematically impossible."
