Community Reviews

This Legion 7i stands out as a sharp OLED gaming laptop with strong performance, a great keyboard, and surprisingly good speakers for a thin machine. The 2.5K display gets praised for HDR, and real world gaming looks solid, though the RTX 5070s 8GB of VRAM can cause stutters at native 2560 by 1600 in heavier games. Battery life lands around five hours in lighter use, and office work can be nearly silent. The main concern is Best Buy open box labeling, since several units showed display model signs and high SSD hours, so warranty confirmation matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • Open-box units still have Best Buy's 15-day return window, and Lenovo can reset the warranty to one year from the purchase date when you submit the Best Buy receipt or pickup screenshot. Some buyers also report buying Lenovo extended coverage afterward for longer protection.

  • Yes, because some units sold as open box were clearly display machines with thousands of power-on hours, and one developed horizontal white lines after only three days. Others arrived in near-new cosmetic condition and worked well, so checking hours, warranty status, and display health immediately after pickup is important.

  • Common signs include sticker residue, dust in the rear exhaust vents, and very high SSD power-on hours in CrystalDiskInfo. One unit showed about 8,000 hours, which strongly indicated it had been used as a store display rather than lightly opened.

  • It handles Battlefield and other games well, and the machine is described as basically silent for office work with a strong keyboard and bright OLED screen. The main limitation is the RTX 5070's 8GB VRAM, which can cause stutters at native 2560x1600 in heavier games, so dropping to 1920x1080 with DLSS can help.

  • One reported test got just under 5 hours of 4K YouTube at 40% brightness, which is a fairly heavy workload for a laptop OLED. Battery health on a display unit was also reported above 95%, so the pack can still be in good shape even when the machine has high power-on hours.

He just said he submitted the receipt to Lenovo. I'm going to do the same this evening.

I did this twice earlier this year. I just uploaded a Best Buy screenshot showing my pickup date to Lenovo's website, and they updated the warranty start date to match my pickup date for both machines.

This was a fine price for this laptop even in 2025. Great price today

I posted this in the previous thread about this: I grabbed one from a nearby area to these that are available and what I received was a store display unit. This particular model, at full price, is also being marked as clearance. So, it seems that BB is phasing out selling this model and has posted the displays as open boxes. How did I know it was open box?:
  • Warranty ran our in June of 2026 (which means it was "new" in June of 2025).
  • Sticker residue in places where there are not stickers from the factory.
  • Dust bunnies in the rear exhaust vents (the ones that take a lot of run time to develop).
  • CrystalDiskInfo says nearly ~8000 power-on hours (333 days).
I am vehemently against labelling a display unit as open box, it seems extremely disingenuous. That being said, the current market (like as of this week), seems to be extremely dry for alternate options. Prices are insane. My gut tells me to return the one I got. My principles also tell me to return it based on the shady practice of marking it as open box. My poor gamer heart fears I won't be able to find anything else anywhere near this price point. It really is a nice machine. The monitor is gorgeous. Despite being a display model, I can't find any faults in the monitor, no dead or stuck pixels, HDR content plays beautifully. Cinebench R23 and 2026 scores are as they should be. CrystalDiskInfo puts the SSD health at 96% despite the long power on hours. Battery health is reportedly >95% as well. Keyboard is excellent (if you've never used a Lenovo keyboard, they have a reputation for being fantastic for a reason). The speakers are surprisingly good for down-firing.Someone in the other thread said they got an open box that was a display unit and contacted Lenovo, who did actually give them another full year of warranty. I think I'm going to contact Lenovo today and see if they'll do the same for me. If they won't, I'm 100% returning it because I could get a better laptop on the official used market for this amount of money (since in my view, a display unit is "used" and not "new, open box").
Lenovo gives a full warranty on all open-box from Best Buy, I've contacted them before about it. They were pretty much unequivocal in saying it would be covered.

Can you link to the post where the person talks about getting a Lenovo warranty? Good idea
That was me. And yep, you just submit your reciept from Best Buy and they reset the warranty date! (Also bought the extended warranty then through Lenovo for a solid 3 years of protection)

If you can get the warranty extended I would go for it.

I got a Lenovo legion from Costco and after about 4 months I kept getting core segmentation fault errors.

I did a warranty fix then one month after the warranty expired it came back.

Doing a Costco warranty fix now but I'm fairly disappointed as I've only gotten 6-8 months of unproblematic use from it in 18 months of possessing it.

Certainly BestBuy is not selling you a warrantee-less laptop! I'm familiar with the rules on open-box and ASUS but wouldn't you get a full year warranty through BestBuy?
Nope. You get a 15 day return period, and whatever remaining manufacturer warranty there is left. For mine, that's zero until I submit a receipt to Lenovo and then it's sounding like they'll do 1 year from the purchase date. Best Buy would have gladly sold me 2 years of geek squad warranty for $200. The thing is, I'm not really that worried about this thing immediately dying. I'm not worried about year two either. It's the premature year three-four that I care about. I typically keep my laptops for six years and only replace them due to lack of power at that point.

In any normal market, there's no way I'd accept this. You'll see others in the comments feeling similarly: in the current market it's kinda hard not to keep it even though I shouldn't because calling something with 8000 power on hours "new" is absolutely asinine.

When I check BB for this it says Unavailable for all conditions. Is this for my local BB or for all BB locations? How can I check for all BB locations? I don't see an "See Availability" for other locations. Thanks!

I'm with you and typically won't keep a display model. BUT...BestBuy does say on ALL THREE open box conditions that the unit will "work like new". Excellent says "looks like new". Having 8000 hours on a display unit doesn't fit into either of those. BestBuy does not state the laptop would be "like new condition".

It'll show stuff within a certain distance to you. I have like 6 best buys within an hour drive of me because I'm in a metro area. If you don't see anything else pop up it's probably because they're all gone.

When I got mine there were four at various other stores in the area and they're all gone now.

I've bought three different Lenovos from Best Buy this way. In every case, it's been very easy to "reset" the warranty period with them. Case in point: my daughter's had been a display unit with burn in. Once warranty was reset, mailed it in for OLED replacement without any issue.
