I'd get an old-school Vitamix 5200. Built like a tank and lasts forever.

Lots of "built in obsolescence" on these newer models that were introduced after patient protection expired on the classic Vitamix 5200 model.

Great deal because both the 3" blade 48 and 4" blade 64 oz containers are included along with the FP. Resisted buying the Ascent a3500 because my 2012 7500 NexGen won't die but instantly embraced the a3500 on first use. Haven't tried any of the X series which are plastic instead of metal frame. x2 is said to be noisier at high speed than x5 or the a3500 or the 7500.

The 5200 was obsoleted by the Next generation series 7500 in 2012 when radial fan, 2.2 HP motor greatly improved case, noise reduction features, fine speed control and pulse switch were added. All the positive reviews given to the 5200 are merely attributed to the supplied tall container with 3" instead of 4" blades. But 3" blades and narrow bottom are available with the 48 and 32 oz containers.

Built like a tank: Ascent a3500 and the NexGen 7500. The 5200 is durable but not the same build quality with less power.

P.O claim: Ten year warranty which can be extended to 13 years covering everything down to guaranteed performance and free pick-up from home fully negates the "planned obsolescence" claim.

My vitamix motor is starting to die after 11 years. I'm bummed but not mad because I make frozen smoothies every day for breakfast. I'm just concerned with the quality and durability of the new models. Plus I can't use my stainless steel carafe.

I'd rather have a blender that kicks ass at blending, than a machine that tries to do it all. Thoughts?
