If you need the 32GB of RAM and SSD, the CPU/chassis/wifi/OS/PSU is essentially free. CPU is a weird match for the other specs, TBH.

I'm genuinely out of the loop, having tired of the naming systems years ago: what is this CPU not up for, and what specs are you referencing for that assessment?

Performance would be closer to a steamdeck or slightly higher at times.

This would be a great rig for Immich or a steam box of some sort.

It's mostly that this form factor has Ryzen 7 CPUs with 8-core 16-thread configurations and the much better 780M iGPU. And if you go slightly larger to the mobile-on-desktop form factor, you can have Ryzen 9 16-core 32-thread processors, which is a more logical pairing when you're spending $350 of value on RAM.

Thanks! When I say I'm out of date: Factorio and Fortnite both run on the i5-4460 in my desktop I built in college, but that's all I know...

I have the Ryzen 7 6800H 24GB one.
It came with Crucial RAM and a Kingston 1TB SSD. It was $293 a year and 1/2 ago.

I ran OPnSense on it for a while (with the built in dual 2.5Gbps network), then changed it to ProxMox, then Windows 11

I don't game and I don't need the form factor. I just want a desktop pc that won't be obsolete for 5 to 7 years. I only surf the internet with multiple tabs open. Will this do or are there better options? I definitely like the 32gb memory of this one.

This will do fine...at least for 5 years, if you are just surfing the Internet. If you are using Chrome then multiple Tabs can consume a lot of Ram and since this has 32GB, you are covered.

About how old is the CPU. What's the equivalent Intel CPU?

Rather than how old, the actual question should be how many generation old. It is based on Zen 4 architecture, just one generation older than the current AMD Zen 5 lineup. It is more or less quivalent to Intel 1st gen Core Ultra series Core Ultra 5 125H with slightly better multi-threaded performance and slightly lower single threaded performance.
