I feel like they should be able to tell us how much credit a controller should get, no? I've got some slight stick drift on a couple of Xbox controllers and might consider trading up if there was enough credit. Somehow I'm thinking Gamestop isn't going to give much, though.

I think there are already youtube videos out there to swap out the thumbstick parts. I have about 15 xbox controllers that I have been waiting to someday find the time to put new thumbsticks in. I ordered some cheap parts a while back from eBay. Now, you can get hall effect parts which are a little more, but should last with no stick drift. Problem is, I cannot seem to find the time and so now I just buy Xbox controllers from Walmart with their cheap 2 year warranty and they allllllways get stick drift and I get the refund to buy a new one and then repeat the process. Xbox controllers, they should get class action sued for this .. sometimes new ones go within a month or two, sometimes a year but allllllways stick drift.

If you already have that stuff and know what you're doing, yes, it's "just 10 minutes". If you have a few controllers that need fixing, it's probably worth the time and money to learn how to fix them. If you have 1 broken controller, it's not.

I attempted this but you'll need a good de-solder tool (better than the little $10 pneumatic tools) and absolutely perfect vision to even see what you're doing. I ended up scrapping it and buying a Steam Controller instead.

Honestly, not necessarily. Their trade in prices on controllers aren't terrible when you compare to what you would actually make on ebay after something sold and ebay took their cut. Not sure if the difference in hassle of selling yourself is really worth a few bucks. If you are talking broken controllers-- if they actually give you the "up to" value, you're doing quite well. They probably assume you'll bring in other stuff too and also that you will buy stuff when you come in.

For STICK DRIFT, the death of most xbox controllers within 1-2 years, the newest xbox (X/S) controllers have to be soldered. The old xbox one controllers you could open up and swap the sensors without soldering. Right to repair is a real thing worth advocating for-- Reduce electronic waste, save you some money.

YMMV - Staff will nickel and dime you for trade credit. Even with promotions, last time I tried to trade in my PS5 and it went from $400 to $240. And they were shocked when I walked out. They are hoping the social awkwardness will commit you to the price.

Probably better off opening that bad boy up and spraying WD contact cleaner on the RB area. Did that with mine and the issues disappeared. Eventually the rubber handles started wearing out and warping which pushed me into getting a new one.

Yes. Its $30.25. I had one sitting here forever with a bad left bumper, face button and drift. They took it no questions.
