This open box 45 inch LG UltraGear OLED stands out as a huge curved ultrawide for gaming and sim racing, with the 800R curve and OLED panel drawing strong praise. The 3440 by 1440 resolution looks sharp enough for many setups, though the low pixel density can be noticeable at closer distances, especially around 24 to 35 inches. Open box condition has ranged from near new with low hours to heavily used demo units, and a few units showed blemishes or faint burn in. The remote and accessories have also been inconsistent, so checking panel hours and condition matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • Hours vary a lot: reported units ranged from about 19 to 180 hours on excellent-condition picks, while a good-condition unit had around 7,000 hours. Checking panel hours before leaving the store is the safest way to judge wear.

  • Yes, some open-box units have arrived looking brand new with no burn-in signs and only a few dozen to a couple hundred hours. Others have shown faint vertical lines or blemishes, so panel condition still needs to be checked in person.

  • At 45 inches, 3440x1440 has low pixel density and pixels can be noticeable at around 24 to 30 inches. Sitting roughly 35 inches or more away helps reduce the visible pixel structure.

  • The stand is included, and the remote may be in the box even when the listing says it is missing. Some open-box units were sold with only the monitor, stand, and AC adapter, so accessories can vary by unit.

  • It can trigger the LG Monitor App Installer and the related ad pop-up when connected to Windows 11. Preventing it requires taking steps before or after connecting the display.

Why so many returns on it to the point they have high stock of mint open boxes to sell?
Also probably the recent revelations of LG and their invasive push spyware.

So tempting, but my dual 40" IPS 3440x1440 monitors are still serving my gaming setup just fine.

I got open box excellent picked it up this morning unaware of the price drop. Support was worthless and I had to drive back out. Did a return/exchange as the "excellent" had a minor blemish at the top that was noticeable.

Edit: 2nd monitor was perfect
Edit 2: 19 power on hours

The size, the screen real estate seems quite nice. I am wondering whether this would pair well with a 3070, or it my card is too old to truly take advantage of this monitor. TIA

Really only one way to find out if it's for you or not.

I was using an rx590 when I first upgraded to a 49" super ultrawide for sim racing. Then to a 3070ti. Then to a 6950xt. On one hand, some people see the ppi on these and return it. In my case, and maybe a problem, I ended up buying the first edition of this monitor for non-sim games and love it. Recently, I just added two side monitors to the super UW so pushing 64:9 or 10240x1440.

My point is, sometimes when you start, you don't want to stop.

I got an open box excellent with 30 hours on panel. Plastic still on the back. Looks brands new. Amazing deal. I wanted the 5k*2k but this price seems too good.

I want it but it's 3x the price of this essentially ($1529).
$1529? As of a few weeks ago Alienware said it would launch in US at $1100. Did something change?

Picked one of these up today in "Good" condition from a semi-local BBY.

Got home, set it up - looks nice, but 7K hours on the monitor, so it's going back.

Had another in "Excellent" condition already ordered - I'll pick that one up here sometime this week and see how that fares.

Love the OLED + screen size, the 800R curve is actually pretty enjoyable to use as a monitor.

Pixels are noticeable at 30" or so from where I sit to where the monitor sits.

Long story short - hope the second one is better.
