I used a brand name, truck bed tent to travel from Ohio to Alaska and back. It worked excellent and was easy to set up. When I took it down, I could cover it with my tonneau cover.
I can never tell from these pics and descriptions - do you need access to the top rail holes to setup? My f150 bedliner covers those...
No, it's secured with a bunch of straps with hooks at the end. The hooks grab into the bottom of your wheel well, and bumper. I also put 2 straps in the door that hook onto the backseat grab handles so I can secure the tent towards the cab.
Got a hard camper shell. More weather proof, more room.
If you're talking about the cap, they only go as high as the height of the cab and as long as the tail gate up. So if you have a 5 foot bed, you only have 5 feet to stretch out unless you want to sleep diagonally. These bed tents are pretty tall and utilize the tail gate being down so you get an extra 1.5 feet or so to stretch out. The tents are pretty roomy inside.
